Materials Needed:
- Two shades of yarn (details provided in the video description)
- Crochet hook suitable for the yarn you are using
- Stitch markers
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- dc: double crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
- inc: increase (2 stitches in one stitch)
Instructions:
- Starting the Sweater:
- Begin by making very loose chains. The number of chains should be able to fit over your head comfortably.
- For example, if you are making 70 chains, adjust for odd numbers and increases as needed:
- Adjust spaces for the sleeves (example: 15 chains for sleeves).
- Add 4 chains at the corners for increases. For 70 chains, adjust to 76 chains.
- Join the ends with a slip stitch to form a round.
- Working the Initial Round:
- Make a chain to start and place a stitch marker at the start point.
- Work a row of single crochet (sc) around the chain.
- Join at the marked point.
- Marking Increases:
- Divide spaces for increases:
- Count 15 stitches for one sleeve, mark the 16th stitch for an increase.
- Count chest/back space (21 stitches), mark 22nd stitch for an increase.
- Repeat for the other sleeve.
- Leave the remaining 21 stitches for chest/back space.
- Divide spaces for increases:
- Second Round:
- Start at a marked increase point:
- Chain 3.
- Double crochet (dc) in the same space.
- Alternate stitches:
- Double crochet (dc).
- Single crochet (sc).
- Refer to the pattern: 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc (increase sequence).
- Complete the round and join with a slip stitch (sl st).
- Start at a marked increase point:
- Changing Colors:
- Change the yarn color. Bring new yarn to the front, insert the hook in the increase space, and yarn over with the new color.
- Chain 3 and turn the work.
- Work in the opposite direction using the new color.
- Repeat the sequence around the entire round, making sure the first and last stitches before the increase are always double crochets.
- Repeat Pattern Rounds:
- Alter yarn color and direction each round.
- Continue till the desired size is achieved (example: 19 rounds including the initial row of sc).
- Creating the Body of the Sweater:
- Join corners, change yarn color, and continue in the sequence of sc, dc.
- Work on the length of the sweater.
- Continue until the length is achieved.
- Finish with a round of sc.
- Working the Sleeves:
- Use the same pattern as the body:
- Begin at the corner.
- Alternate colors.
- Finish with a round of sc at the cuffs.
- Use a smaller hook for the cuffs if desired:
- Start with 10 chains.
- Chain 1, work 10 sc.
- Join with a slip stitch, mark stitches to avoid confusion.
- Turn and work slip stitches around the edge.
- Work sc in the back loop only of the chain.
- Continue the pattern to finish the cuff and sew using slip stitches.
- Use the same pattern as the body:
- Neckline and Waistband:
- For the neckline:
- Chain 8 for a closed neckline (less for a more open one).
- Work single crochets in back loops of the chains.
- Join with a slip stitch round with both sl st and one more to turn.
- For the waistband:
- Apply the same method as for the neckline.
- Work the same pattern to complete.
- For the neckline:
- Finishing:
- Once all parts are fixed and completed to desired sizes, weave in all ends with a yarn needle.
- Ensure all seams and edges are neat and secure.
This pattern is flexible and can be adjusted based on your preferred size. Happy crocheting!
