Crochet Puff Sleeve Sweater Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • 6.5 mm crochet hook
  • Category 4 yarn

Bottom Border

  1. Foundation Chain:
    • Make a slip knot.
    • Chain 9.
  2. Row 1:
    • Single crochet (sc) into the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. (Total of 8 stitches)
  3. Row 2:
    • Chain 1, turn.
    • Single crochet (sc) into the back bar of each stitch across.
  4. Rows 3-50:
    • Repeat Row 2 until you have a total of 50 rows.

Front Panel

  1. Connecting to Border:
    • Chain 1.
    • Single crochet (sc) into each row of your bottom border, treating each row as one stitch. (Total of 50 stitches)
  2. Rows 2-38:
    • Chain 1, turn.
    • Single crochet (sc) in each stitch across.

Shoulder Straps

  1. First Shoulder Strap:
    • Chain 1, turn your work.
    • Single crochet (sc) into 18 stitches across.
  2. Row 2:
    • Chain 1, turn.
    • Decrease (insert hook into 1st stitch, yarn over, pull up loop, insert into next stitch, pull up loop, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops) then sc across. (Total of 17 stitches)
  3. Rows 3-8:
    • Chain 1, turn.
    • Repeat R2 and R3 until you have a total of 8 rows.
  4. Second Shoulder Strap:
    • Skip 14 stitches from the edge.
    • Insert hook in the 15th stitch, join yarn, chain 1.
    • Repeat the steps of the first shoulder strap as above.

Seaming Front & Back Panels Together

  1. Front Panel and Back Panel:
    • Repeat the entire process for a second panel.
  2. Seaming:
    • Seam the shoulder straps together with slip stitches or single crochets.
    • Move to the sides and seam with a 7.5" opening at the top for the sleeves.

Sleeves

  1. Foundation Row:
    • Join yarn at the seam of the armhole.
    • Chain 1, single crochet into each row around the armhole, ensuring an even number of stitches.
  2. Row 1 - Creating the Sleeve:
    • Chain 61.
    • Half double crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across.
    • Slip stitch up 2 stitches on the armhole.
  3. Row 2:
    • Turn.
    • Half double crochet into the 3rd stitch from the hook.
    • Half double crochet across.
  4. Row 3:
    • Chain 1, Turn.
    • Half double crochet across.
    • Slip stitch up 2 stitches on the armhole.
  5. Rows 4 onwards:
    • Repeat Row 2 and Row 3 until the sleeve is completely worked around the armhole.
  6. Seaming the Sleeve:
    • Turn the sleeve inside out.
    • Seam up the edges.

Cuffs

  1. Foundation Row:
    • Join yarn at the seam of the sleeve.
    • Chain 1, single crochet into each stitch around, ensuring an even number of stitches.
    • Slip stitch to join.
  2. Row 1 - Decreases:
    • Chain 1.
    • Decrease all around the cuff.
  3. Creating the Cuff:
    • Chain 9.
    • Starting from the 2nd chain from hook, single crochet into each chain (8 stitches).
    • Slip stitch up 2 on the sleeve.
  4. Row 2:
    • Turn.
    • Work back loop single crochet (back bar single crochet) in each stitch across.
  5. Row 3:
    • Chain 1, turn.
    • Single crochet in the back bar of each stitch across.
    • Slip stitch up 2 on the sleeve.
  6. Rows 4 onwards:
    • Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until the cuff is completed.
  7. Seaming the Cuff:
    • Seam the two edges together using slip stitches or single crochets.

Collar

  1. Creating the Collar Band:
    • Chain 6.
    • Single crochet into the 2nd chain from hook and each chain across (5 stitches).
  2. Row 2:
    • Chain 1, work back bar single crochet in each stitch across.
  3. Repeat:
    • Repeat Row 2 until the band is 17 inches long.
  4. Seaming the Collar Band:
    • Place stitch markers at four points on the front and back panel.
    • Seam the collar band around the neck opening using a tapestry needle.

Finishing

  • Weave in all loose ends.
