Instructions:
Head:
Magic Ring:
- Create a magic ring and work 8 SCs inside the ring. Pull ring tight.
Round 1:
- Increase in every stitch around (16 stitches total).
Round 2:
- SC in the first stitch, increase in the next. Repeat around (24 stitches).
For Round 3:
- SC in each stitch around (24 stitches).
Round 4:
- SC in the next two stitches, increase in the next. Repeat around (32 stitches).
Round 5:
- SC in each stitch around (32 stitches).
For Round 6:
- SC in the next three stitches, increase in the next. Repeat around (40 stitches).
Round 7, 8:
- SC in each stitch around (40 stitches each round).
Round 9:
- SC in the next four stitches, increase in the next. Repeat around (48 stitches).
For Rounds 10-13:
- SC in each stitch around (48 stitches each round).
Round 14 (Decreasing Starts):
- Perform invisible decrease by inserting hook under the front loop only of the next two stitches each time (24 stitches).
Round 15:
- SC in each stitch around with decreases every few stitches as needed to shape the head.
Stuffing and Placing Safety Eyes:
- Stuff the head and place safety eyes between rounds 9 and 10, approximately 9-10 stitches apart.
Round 16:
- Continue decreasing until you have 12 stitches.
Final Round:
- Decrease to 6 stitches, finish off, and weave in ends.
Skirt:
Attaching Skirt:
- Attach yarn with a slip stitch to one of the stitches from round 13 of the head.
- Chain 1, skip a stitch, 5 DC in next stitch (forms a "petal"), skip a stitch, SC in next stitch. Repeat this pattern around.
Tentacles:
Tentacles:
- Attach yarn at the base of the head (round 16).
- Chain 15, turn, skip the first chain and make 3 DC in each chain back to the head. Slip stitch to secure and cut yarn.
- Repeat for the desired number of tentacles, alternating colors if desired.
Final Tentacle and Shaping the Face:
- Work additional 20-chain tentacles with curlicues by placing 3 DC in each chain.
- Shape the face slightly by pulling yarn through inner top and bottom corners of each eye, adjusting as necessary for expression.
