You'll add markers as you go, helping you know where to increase the stitches to make it wider where it should be, like at the shoulders. Making this sweater can be a fun way to spend your time, and the best part is that you end up with a comfy sweater you made all by yourself! Whether you’re curling up on a chilly evening or stepping out on a cool day, this sweater is perfect for staying warm and stylish.

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn (specifically, Caren Latte Cake in the shade Blackberry was used, but any yarn is fine)
  • 5mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle
  • Stitch markers or bobby pins
  • Tape measure

Pattern:

1

Starting with the Neckline:

  • Create a slip knot and begin chaining stitches; the example used 84 chains for a total length of 26 inches for the neckline.
  • Close the chain with a slip stitch into the first chain to create a loop, making sure it fits over your head.

First Row (Foundation for the Body):

  • Chain 4 (this counts as one triple crochet).
  • Work a triple crochet into the next chain and each chain around.
  • Slip stitch into the fourth chain of the starting chain four to join.

2

Adding Stitch Markers:

  • Place stitch markers at four symmetrical points on the neckline to mark increase spots.
  • The stitch markers should be placed around where your shoulders will be and where the increases will widen the sweater for sleeves and body.

Second Row and Following Rows (Body of the Sweater):

  • Start each row by chaining 4, flip your work to maintain the seam in the center.
  • Work triple crochets to your first stitch marker, do an increase where marked by working [1 triple crochet, chain 1, 1 triple crochet] into the same stitch.
  • Repeat this at each stitch marker spot for every row.

3

Continue this pattern until the piece measures about 9 inches from the center of the neckline down or until just below your armpits.

Creating the Sleeve Holes:

  • Start the row as usual, but when reaching the stitch marker, create a chain (chain 8 or more for a larger armhole) and skip stitches across to the next stitch marker to form an armhole.
  • Continue with triple crochets until you reach the other side and repeat for the second armhole.
  • Join the row with a slip stitch into the chain four from the beginning of the row.

4

Working the Body:

  • Continue working in rounds of triple crochet, now simply working into each stitch and each chain (of the sleeve hole chains) around until the sweater is the desired length from neckline to bottom.

Sleeves:

  • Join yarn at the base of one armhole, chain four, and work triple crochets around the armhole opening.
  • Continue working rounds of triple crochet until the sleeve reaches from the armpit to mid-way between the elbow and wrist (or preferred length).
  • If you want flared sleeves, start increasing by working two triple crochets in one stitch at the middle of the sleeves (marked by a bobby pin), alternating increase rows with normal rows.

Finishing:

  • Continue the pattern for the sleeves, making sure both sleeves are the same length.
  • Weave in all ends, and you've completed your Raglan sweater!

Make sure to try on the sweater as you go along to ensure a proper fit. Adjust the number of chains, rows, and increases to suit the size you're aiming for.
