Chubby 2D Chicken Charm Crochet Pattern

Crochet this cute chicken charm. It's a chubby 2D design that's quick, easy to make, and perfect for beginners. Let’s gather our materials and start crocheting!

Pattern Basic Points

Construction Overview

  • Modular Construction: The chicken is made from two identical oval body panels, joined and lightly stuffed for its chubby shape.
  • Small Details: Separate pieces are made for the comb, feet, and beak.
  • Structural Assembly: The details are stitched or crocheted into place as you close up the body.
  • Customizable: The eyes are glued on and details like pink blush can be added to achieve different expressions.

Section Highlight Breakdown

  • Comb: Made with red yarn, simple chains, single crochet, double crochet, and slip stitches to create points.
  • Feet: Made in orange yarn, shaped with chains and slip stitches for three toes.
  • Beak: Created from a small piece of orange yarn with a distinct point formed by chains, single and half-double crochet stitches.
  • Body: Worked in yellow yarn, forming an oval. Shaping is done with a mix of single, half-double, and double crochet stitches, with increases at both ends for the chubby look. The side "wings" are accentuated with tall stitches.
  • Face: Assembled by attaching the beak and eyes, then joined and stuffed.
  • Finishing: All pieces are joined with single crochet stitches around the outside, feet and comb attached as you go, and the charm is finished with a keychain ring.

Special Notes

  • Secure loose ends of each piece before assembly for neatness.
  • For uniformity, always join rounds with a slip stitch and chain up only as instructed.
  • The structure relies on even stitch counts; using stitch markers is recommended.
  • Use craft glue for attaching plastic eyes for convenience, or sew on if preferred.
  • Stuff the charm lightly to retain the flat “2D” appearance.

Skill Level

Beginner-Friendly

  • Focuses on simple stitches, basic shaping, and layered assembly.
  • Familiarity with working in rows and in rounds needed for neat joining.
