Materials:
- Lion Brand Mandala Yarn or similar (Color: Dragon)
- Caron Cakes Yarn or similar
- Optional: Additional scrap yarns
- 4mm and 5mm Crochet Hooks
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors
- Elastic (if needed for the waistband)
Instructions:
Step 1: Initial Setup
- Hook and Yarn: Start with the 4mm hook, using the Lion Brand Mandala and Caron Cakes yarns for a smooth transition.
- Adjust Hook Size: Switch to a 5mm hook if stitches feel too tight.
Step 2: Hexagon Formation
- Create Foundation: Crochet a series of hexagons. Continue until you have a size that covers about half of your body width.
- Row Count: Aim for approximately 18-19 rows for each hexagon.
For Step 3: Sleeve Adjustments
- Width Measurement: Measure the sleeve width against the widest part of your arm. Each half of the hexagon should be around 8 inches wide, making the total width around 16 inches.
- Adjust Length: Once the sleeve reaches the desired width, stop increasing and start working on the body panels only.
Step 4: Working on the Body Panels
- Corner Stitches: Work through only two side panels and the bottom piece, ensuring you get the required width and length for your body.
- Length and Width: Adjust as per your body size; each folded piece should be between 16 to 18 inches wide for proper fit.
Step 5: Alternating Yarns
- Alternate Every 2 Rows: Alternate between the Mandala and Cloud Cakes yarns every row or two.
- Use Scrap Yarn if Needed: If you run out of the primary yarns, incorporate scrap yarns of similar weight to complete the project.
For Step 6: Completing the First Half
- Fit Check: After 18-19 rows, do a fit check to ensure it covers the desired areas—approximately just over the bust line.
- Yarn Calculation: Weigh the completed half to estimate if existing yarns will suffice for the entire cardigan.
Step 7: Second Half
- Repeat Steps: Create the second half following the same method.
- Fit Adjustments: Make any necessary adjustments while making the second half to match the first one in size and fit.
Step 8: Joining the Halves
- Seam Both Halves: Stitch the panels together, joining the sides and shoulders. Leave about a quarter seam allowance at the sides to allow movement.
For Step 9: Cuffs and Waistband
- Cuffs: Start the cuffs for the sleeves using the 5mm hook. Consider leaving the sleeves open and only seaming at the cuff for a relaxed fit.
- Waistband: Add a waistband ensuring a snug fit. If the waistband feels too loose, run elastic through it to tighten.
Step 10: Final Touches
- Trim and Tidy Up: Sew or cut any loose ends.
- Final Adjustments: Check the fit once more, especially around the waist and cuffs, making any final adjustments as necessary.
Reminder:
- Pattern Flexibility: Adjust the pattern based on the yarn's thickness, hook size, and your personal measurements.
- Customization: Feel free to customize the pattern based on available yarn colors and textures for a unique look.
