Pattern

  • 1. Ch 356.
  • 2. Row 1 (RS): 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as first dc2tog), (ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, dc2tog) in same ch, *skip next 3 ch, sl st in next ch, sk next 3 ch, (dc2tog, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, dc2tog) in next ch; rep from * across, turn. See pics 1 & 2
  • 3. Row 2 (WS): *Ch 2, skip next ch-1 sp, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next dc (center of shell), ch 2, 1 sc in sl st; rep from * across, ending with sl st in top of beg ch from Row 1, turn.
    Ch 1, sl st into ch-2 sp, sl st into next 2 sts, sl st into next ch-1 sp. You are now ready to start row 3. See pic 3
  • 4. Row 3: Ch 3, 1 dc (counts as dc2tog), (ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, dc2tog) in same sp, *ch 1, (dc2tog, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, dc2tog) in next ch-1 sp; rep from * across, turn.

Tassel Instructions

  • 1. Make tassels as follows:
  • 2. Using a book approx. 4-5” in width, cut a 12” length of yarn and lay it across the top of the book – this will be used to tie the top of the tassel. Wrap yarn around the book about 15-20 times (depending on the thickness required).
  • 3. Using the 12” tie, knot the top of the tassel tightly. Cut the tassel at the opposite end. Wrap another length of yarn around the tassel 1” from top approx.5 times and knot ends together.
  • 4. Trim if needed and sew securely to the corners of the shawl.
