The beauty of this purse lies in its simple but effective use of crochet stitches. The double crochet stitch shapes the lovely flower petals, creating a raised texture that stands out. The single crochet stitch adds firmness and strength, keeping your items safe inside. These stitches work together to make the purse both attractive and durable.

Changing the size of the purse is easy by adjusting the number of stitches, so you can make it bigger or smaller depending on what you want to carry. This flexibility adds to the purse’s charm and usefulness.

Crocheted Souvenir Motif and Flower Decoration

In this step-by-step crochet pattern, you’ll learn how to create an Indo poly yarn souvenir motif with a beautiful flower decoration and leaf accent, following along precisely with the demonstration in the video. We will craft the motif’s base, border, decorative elements, and join everything into a finished project. This pattern is friendly to beginners but requires careful attention to step order, ensuring all video details are included.

Quick Overview Of Pattern

  • Create the foundation motif using multiples of four chains
  • Work rows of single crochet and motif stitch
  • Add a border with cream thread using single crochet and increases
  • Sew the motif into a folded shape
  • Crochet a decorative flower and leaf and attach to motif

Notes

  • This pattern follows the exact steps demonstrated in the video.
  • Indo poly yarn was used for both the motif and decorations; feel free to substitute with similar thickness yarns.
  • Instructions include precise stitch counts and details for each motif row.
  • Remember to use a lighter or appropriate method for securing yarn ends as shown.
  • Crocheting tightly or loosely may alter your project’s size and appearance.

Skill Level

Beginner to Intermediate
(No advanced stitches; motif pattern is simple but requires some attention to "back dc" stitch placement.)

Materials

  • Indo poly yarn (main color and cream for border)
  • 4/0 Tulip crochet hook (approximately 2.25mm)
  • Tapestry needle for joining and sewing
  • Lighter (for securing yarn ends, use with caution)
  • Scissors

Measurements / Sizing

  • Foundation: 49 chains (48 + 1 for turning)

    Save

Gauge

  • Motif rows: 48 single crochet per row
  • Sample gauge: 48 stitches = approx. 10cm (adjust if substituting yarn)
  • Swatch motif: Work a sample of 15 chains x 5 rows and measure for stitch size.

Stitch Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • picot = [sc, ch 2, sl st in first ch]

Special Stitches

  • Motif Stitch: Work two double crochets in next chain, then one double crochet backward into skipped chain.
  • Leaf Stitch: Sequence of sc, hdc, dc, turns, and picot as described in the leaf section below.

The Crochet Pattern!

A. Foundation Motif

1. Foundation Chain

Step 1: Make a slip knot on your hook.

Step 2: Chain in multiples of 4 (e.g. 4 + 4 + 4 ...) until reaching the desired length.

  • In the video, 48 chains are made as the base.
  • Step 3: Add 1 chain for turning (total: 49 chains).
    Save

2. Row 1 – Single Crochet

Step 4: Turn, insert hook in second chain from hook.

Step 5: Work 48 single crochet (sc) across row, one in each chain.

3. Row 2 – Motif Stitch (Double Crochet Pattern)

Step 6: Chain 3 (counts as first dc), turn.

Step 7: Skip 1 chain hole.

Step 8: In next chain hole, work 2 double crochet (dc).

Save

Step 9: Go back into skipped chain hole, work 1 dc (placing dc backward).

This forms one motif group.

Step 10: Repeat steps 7–9 across the row:

  • Skip one chain, two dc in the next chain hole, one dc backward into skipped chain.
  • Continue this until you reach the end of the row.

Note:

  • At the very end, if two chains remain, skip one chain and make a final dc in the last chain hole.

4. Row 3 – Single Crochet Foundation

Step 11: Chain 1, turn.

Step 12: Work 48 single crochets (sc) across entire motif row, one in each stitch.

5. Row 4 (Motif Pattern Repeat)

Step 13: Chain 3, turn.

Step 14: Skip one chain, work two dc in the next chain, one dc backward into skipped chain (motif group).

Step 15: Repeat motif group (steps 13–14) across row.

  • At the end, skip one chain and make a dc in the last stitch.

Continue Alternating Rows:

  • Repeat Rows 3 and 4—single crochet row followed by motif pattern row—as demonstrated.
  • Work to desired height; in the video, 47 rows are made.

B. Tidy & Border

Step 16: Straighten motif by stretching and gently pulling.

Step 17: Chain 1, break yarn using lighter as in the video.

Step 18: Turn project over, join cream thread at the last edge.

Save

Border Round

Step 19: Work single crochets (sc) evenly around:

  • In each chain hole along the side: 1 sc.
  • At right corners: Add 2 sc in one hole (increase).
  • Along row edges: Work 1 sc in each row end.
  • In rows with larger holes (motif gaps): 2 sc + chain 1.

Step 20: Continue evenly, filling each chain hole with 1 sc, row holes with 2 sc plus chain 1.

Step 21: Join end of round with a slip stitch.

Step 22: Break yarn, leaving tail for sewing.

Save

C. Assembly

Step 23: Turn the motif, fold neatly (as shown).

Step 24: Thread tapestry needle with leftover yarn.

Step 25: Sew folded edges together, matching up stitches and corners.

Repeat this method for other sides if making multiple motifs.

Step 27: Chain in multiples of 3; for sample, chain 45.

    Save

Step 30: Skip 2 chains, in next chain, work 1 dc, chain 2, 1 dc (repeat motif).

Step 31: Continue repeating motif across row: skip 2 chains, (1 dc, chain 2, 1 dc) in same hole.

Second Flower Row

Step 32: Chain 3, turn.

Step 33: In each large chain space (formed by chain-2), work:

  • 1 dc, 2 chains, 2 dc (all in same large space).

Step 34: Repeat across row, always working into the center of previous V-shaped motifs.

Step 35: At the end, 1 dc in the initial starting chain.

Third Flower Row

Step 36: Chain 1, turn.

Step 37: In small spaces (between motifs) work:

  • 1 sc.

Step 38: In large spaces, work:

  • 7 dc (center of motif), then skip 2 chains.

Step 39: Repeat pattern:

  • In small space: 1 sc
  • In large space: 7 dc

Step 40: At row end, make slip stitch in end space, chain 1 and leave tail for joining.
