  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Tape measure

Difficulty Level: Intermediate

Gauge: 13 sts x 12 rows = 4″ (Pattern for gauge: same as pattern)

Size: Laid flat with no stretch: 10″ x 50″ [You can adjust the length according to your preference.]

Stitch Abbreviations:

  • ch – Chain
  • hdc – Half Double Crochet
  • FPdc – Front Post Double Crochet

Pattern Notes:

  • US Terminology
  • All beginning ch1 do not count as a stitch
  • The scarf is worked in rows width-wise
  • To adjust the width, use a beginning chain count of 4, to adjust length continue row repeats until the desired length

Special Stitches:

Front Post Double Crochet (FPdc): Yarn over, and insert the hook into the hole next to the post of the next stitch, on the “hook side”, bring the hook back to the front of the fabric from behind the post, to the hole farther from the hook, yarn over and draw up a loop, bringing it through both sides of the fabric, yarn over, and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook.

 Pattern:

  • Ch 28
  • Row 1: Hdc in the second ch from the hook, and each ch across, ch1, turn (27).
  • Row 2: Hdc in each st across, ch1, turn (27).
  • Row 3: Hdc in the same st as the ch1, hdc in next 2 sts, FPdc around hdc below from row 1 (skipping over row 2), hdc in next 3 sts, repeat across, ch1, turn (27).
  • Row 4: Hdc in each st across, ch1, turn (27).
  • Row 5: Hdc in the same st as the ch1, hdc in next 2 sts, FPdc around the stem of the FPdc in the previous row, skip st behind the FPdc, hdc in the next 3 sts, repeat across, ch1, turn. (27).

Repeat rows 4 & 5 until the desired length for the scarf. The sample scarf used 1 full skein of Bernat Premium, 360 yds, for 122 rows and 50″ length.

Once you’ve completed the final row, tie off, leaving a long tail to weave in.
