Wear it while enjoying a quiet day inside or out running errands as either way, this cardigan is sure to become a go-to favorite in your wardrobe. Why wait? Start on this simple and rewarding crochet project today!

Materials Needed:

  • 5mm crochet hook
  • Worsted weight yarn (size mentioned is for roughly a medium size)
  • Stitch markers
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Starting the Cardigan:

  • Begin with a slip knot, chain 120 (or enough chains that when draped around the neck fits loosely with a small gap for the opening of the cardigan).
  • Measure the chain around your neck to ensure a comfortable fit.

Shoulder & Arm Increases:

  • Measure and place stitch markers about 4.5 inches from each end of the chain to mark the shoulder increases. Make sure the markers are placed symmetrically on both sides.
  • Join your yarn and chain an additional 2 chains.
  • Start double crocheting in the third chain from the hook and in every chain till you reach the first stitch marker.
  • At the stitch marker, make an increase (double crochet, chain 1, double crochet) in the same stitch.
  • Continue double crocheting to the next marker, repeating the increase at each stitch marker.

2 Save

Creating the Body:

  • Keep repeating the established pattern, placing increases at each marker in the chain 1 space formed by the previous row's increase. This creates a trapezoid shape for the armholes and shoulders.
  • After 13 rows (or desired length before the underarm), try on the piece to check for fit. Adjust if necessary.

Connecting for Armholes:

  • After reaching the correct length, chain a number (suggested: 11 chains) enough to stretch across the underarm comfortably, then connect this chain with a double crochet to the body part adjacent to create an armhole. Repeat on the other side.

3 Save

Continuing the Body:

  • Continue working in double crochet, now working around the entire body including the underarm chains.
  • For additional length, keep adding rows of double crochet until you've reached your desired cardigan length.

Sleeves:

  • Start the sleeves by working double crochets around the armhole, gradually decreasing if necessary for fitting.
  • To adjust sleeve length, continue adding rows until you reach your desired length.

Finishing Touches:

  • Ties/Bows: If desired, add ties or bows by crocheting chains or using ribbon yarn at intervals along the front opening of the cardigan.
  • Blocking: Consider blocking your cardigan to shape and smooth out the stitches.
  • Weaving in Ends: Use a yarn needle to securely weave in all loose ends.

5 Save

Additional Notes:

  • Adjusting Size: Chain more or less according to your size, and adjust the number of rows for both the body and sleeves as needed.
  • Yarn Weight: The pattern can be adapted for different yarn weights. Be mindful that this may affect the size of the cardigan and the amount of yarn needed.
  • Customization: Feel free to add more detailed customizations such as different stitch patterns for borders or including buttons/buttonholes.
