You'll see a charming turtle friend take shape. Sunny the Turtle isn't just a crochet project. It's a heartwarming companion that brings smiles and a splash of creativity to your day.

Supplies Needed:

  • Yarn in three colors (one for shell, one for body, one contrasting color)
  • Loops & Threads yarn (or equivalent)
  • 6 mm crochet hook (or size according to your yarn's label)
  • Scissors or snippers
  • Yarn needle

Sunny The Turtle 1 Save

Head:

  • Start with a magic ring or chain 3 method.
  • Do 6 single crochets into the center of the loop.

Increase round: Do 2 single crochets in each stitch (12 single crochets total).

Sunny The Turtle 2 Save

  • Next round: 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then 2 single crochets in the next. Repeat around (18 single crochets total).
  • Following round: 1 single crochet in the first 2 stitches, 2 single crochets in the third stitch. Repeat around (24 single crochets total).
  • Next round: 1 single crochet in the first 3 stitches, 2 single crochets in the fourth stitch. Repeat around (30 single crochets total).
  • For the next three rows, do 1 single crochet in each stitch (30 single crochets per row).

Decrease round: Do 1 single crochet in the first 3 stitches, then a decrease stitch.\

Sunny The Turtle 3 Save

  • Next round: 2 single crochets, then a decrease. Repeat around.
  • Following round: 1 single crochet, 1 decrease. Repeat around.
  • Add eyes.
  • Do 2 rows of single crochets (1 in each stitch).

Fins (Make 4):

Sunny The Turtle 4 Save

Start with a magic ring or chain 3 method.

  • Do 6 single crochets into the center of the ring.
  • Increase round: Do 2 single crochets in each stitch around.
  • Next rounds: Follow a similar pattern of increasing and single crochets as done for the head.
  • Fold the piece in half and single crochet the edges together.

Shell:

Sunny The Turtle 5 Save

Start with a magic ring or chain 3 method.

  • Do 11 double crochets into the center of the ring (first chain counts as first double crochet).
  • Increase with two single crochets in each stitch around (24 single crochets total).
  • Create the points/sun shape by chaining and skipping stitches, creating peaks all the way around.
  • Change to a contrasting yarn color and single crochet around each peak, creating the shell pattern.
  • Do 2 rows of single crochets all around.

Body:

Sunny The Turtle 6 Save

  • Assemble by working into back loops of shell and connecting fins and head with single crochets.
  • Decrease with consistent single crochets and decreases until the body is closed.
  • Add stuffing before fully closing.
  • Weave in the ends securely.

Finishing:

  • Go through your work to weave in any loose ends and make necessary adjustments to firm up the turtle's shape.
