Materials:

  • Super bulky (size 6) plush yarn (example given: Big Twist Plush)
  • 7mm crochet hook
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • inc: increase (2 sc in one stitch)
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • tr: triple (or treble) crochet
  • st(s): stitch(es)

Pattern:

1 Save

Head and Body:

Begin with a magic circle or chain 2 method. If using chain 2, sc 8 in the first ch.

  • Round 1: Inc in each st around (16 sts).
  • Round 2: 1 sc, inc repeat around (24 sts).
  • Round 3: 2 sc, inc repeat around, but split at start and end for a smoother shape (32 sts).
  • Round 4: 3 sc, inc repeat around (40 sts).
  • Round 5: 4 sc, inc repeat around (48 sts). Stop increasing after this point.
  • Rounds 6-13: Sc in each st around for eight rounds, creating the length of the cat's body.
    • You may adjust the number of rounds if you prefer a longer or shorter cat.

Ears (front loops only, created while crocheting the head):

2 Save

Crochet up to where the ears should be.

  • First ear: In the front loop, 1 hdc, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in same st, 1 hdc.
  • Crochet 6 sts normally between the ears.
  • Repeat the first ear pattern for the second ear.
  • Crochet around the rest of the round normally, in the back loops.

Feet (front of cat, made using triple crochet bobbles):

  • 4 tr bobble: Yarn over twice, insert into st, pull up a loop, (yarn over, pull through 2 loops) x 2, leaving last loop on hook repeat from * three more times, yarn over, pull through all loops on hook.
  • Create the front two feet using the 4 tr bobble method on opposite sides of the body.

Continue Body:

  • Sc for as many rounds as needed to reach the desired body length.

3 Save

Back Feet:

  • Repeat front feet pattern for back feet, ensuring alignment with the front feet.

Closing Body:

Begin decreasing, mirroring how you increased but in reverse.

  • Dec round 1: 4 sc, dec around until closed.
  • Continue decreasing until you have a small opening left.

Stuffing:

4 Save

  • Stuff the cat firmly, making sure to fill out all parts evenly.
  • Finish decreasing until the opening is closed.
  • Use the yarn needle to weave in the end and fully close the body.

Tail (added after the body is closed):

  • Choose the tail placement and attach yarn directly to the body.
  • Chain the desired length for the tail.
  • Sc back down the chain to the body and fasten off.
  • Weave in any tail ends.
