Crochet Strawberry Car Hanger Pattern

Materials Needed

  • Yarn:
    • Red (for the strawberry body)
    • Green (for the leaves/stem and hanging loop)
    • Yellow (for the seeds)
    • White (for the flower petals, optional)
    • Light Yellow (for the center of the flower, optional)
  • Hook Size: 4 mm
  • Fiberfill: For stuffing the strawberry
  • Darning Needle: For sewing and embroidery
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun (optional)

Gauge

Not critical, but keep stitches tight enough to prevent stuffing from showing.

Pattern Instructions

1. Strawberry Body (Red Yarn)

  1. Start with a Magic Circle (MC):
    • CH 1.
  2. Round 1:
    • Work 4 SC into MC.
    • Pull the yarn tail to close the circle.
    • SS into the first SC and CH 1 to finish the round.

    • 2 SC in each stitch around (INC in every stitch).
    • SS and CH 1.
      (8 SC)
  4. Round 3:
    • 1 SC in first stitch, INC in next stitch. Repeat around.
    • SS and CH 1.
      (12 SC)
  5. Round 4:
    • 1 SC in next 2 stitches, INC in next stitch. Repeat around.
    • SS and CH 1.
      (16 SC)
  6. Round 5:
    • 1 SC in next 3 stitches, INC in next. Repeat around.
    • SS and CH 1.
      (20 SC)
  7. Rounds 6–8:
    • SC in each stitch around (no increases).
    • SS and CH 1 at end of each round.
      (20 SC per round)
  8. Round 9: (Start decreasing to shape the strawberry)
    • 1 SC in next 2 stitches, then DEC in next 2 stitches. Repeat around.
    • SS and CH 1.
      (15 SC)
  9. Round 10:
    • 1 SC in next stitch, then DEC. Repeat around.
    • SS and CH 1.
      (10 SC)
      2 a Save
  10. Round 11 (Final Round for Body):
    • DEC around.
    • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
      (5 SC)
  11. Stuffing and Closing:
    • Stuff the strawberry with fiberfill until firm.
    • Using the long tail and a darning needle, weave through the front loops only of the final round. Pull tight to close the opening.
    • Weave in the tail securely.

2. Embroider Seeds (Yellow Yarn)

  1. Cut a long piece of yellow yarn.
  2. Using the darning needle, create small V-shaped stitches on the surface of the strawberry to represent seeds.
  3. Scatter the seeds evenly. Once complete, knot the yarn tail securely and weave it into the body.

3. Leaves and Stem (Green Yarn)

  1. Start with a Magic Circle (MC), CH 1.
  2. Round 1: Work 5 SC into the MC. Close tightly.
    (5 SC)
  3. SS into the first SC, CH 1.
  4. Leaf Formation for Each Stitch:
    • CH 4, then:
      • Work 1 SC in 2nd CH from the hook.
      • Work 1 HDC in next CH, then 1 DC in next CH.
    • SS into the next SC (to attach the leaf).

    • Repeat this process for all 5 SC stitches in the circle to create 5 leaves.
  5. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing the leaves to the strawberry.

4. Optional Flower

Flower Center (Light Yellow Yarn):

  1. Start with a Magic Circle (MC), CH 1.
  2. Work 5 SC into the MC.
  3. SS into the first SC and fasten off.

Flower Petals (White Yarn):

  1. Attach white yarn with a SS to the flower center.

  2. For Each Petal:
    • CH 3, then work 4 DC into the same stitch, CH 3, and SS into the same stitch.
    • Move to the next stitch and repeat to form a total of 5 petals.
  3. Fasten off and weave in tails.

5. Hanging Loop

  1. With green yarn, CH 60 (or your desired length).
  2. SS back into the first chain to form a loop.
  3. Fasten off, leaving long tails on each side.

6. Assembly

  1. Attach the Leaves:
    • Place the leaves on top of the strawberry. Use the long tail to sew them securely.
  2. Attach the Flower (Optional):
    • Position the flower near the top of the strawberry (slightly off-center) and sew it in place.
  3. Attach the Hanging Loop:
    • Use the long tails from your loop to secure it through the top of the strawberry and tie firmly. Knot securely and weave the ends.
  4. For extra security, use a hot glue gun to attach the components if desired.
