How To Crochet a Bomber Hoodie

Detailed Crochet Hoodie Pattern

Materials:

  • Category 4 yarn (900 grams, 1500 yards)
  • 5mm and 5.5mm crochet hooks
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers
  • Tape measure

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip Stitch (sl st)
  • Single Crochet (sc)
  • Half Double Crochet (hdc)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Suzette Stitch (single crochet and double crochet into the same stitch, skip one stitch)

Instructions:

Front Panel (Make 2)

  1. Starting Chain:
    • Make a slip knot.
    • With the 5.5mm hook, create an odd-number chain that reaches from the base of your neck to the desired length (e.g., ch 51, approx 14 inches/35 centimeters).
  2. Row 1 (Suzette Stitch):
    • Block off last chain and ch 1 (turning chain, does not count as a stitch).
    • Into the second chain from hook: sc and dc.
    • Skip next chain and repeat: sc, dc into the next chain until two chains remain.
    • Skip second last chain and in the last chain, do 3 hdc. Ch 1 and turn work.
  3. Row 2 (Suzette Stitch on Even Rows):
    • Sc and dc into the first stitch. Skip next stitch.
    • Repeat: sc, dc into the next stitch until 2 stitches remain.
    • Skip second last stitch and hdc in the last stitch. Ch 1 and turn work.
  4. Row 3 (Suzette Stitch on Odd Rows, with Increases):
    • Sc and dc into the first stitch. Skip next stitch.
    • Repeat suzette stitch pattern until two stitches remain.
    • Skip second last stitch and do 3 hdc into the last stitch. Ch 1 and turn work.
  5. Repeating Pattern:
    • Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until the piece reaches the top of your shoulder.
  6. Shoulder Portion (No Increases/Decreases):
    • Continue suzette stitches for shoulder portion until it reaches near mid collarbone.
    • Insert stitch markers for pocket slit (e.g., 6th and 18th stitch).
  7. Pocket Slit:
    • Crocheting to the first stitch marker.
    • Chain number minus one (e.g., ch 12).
    • Continue suzette stitches into the stitch after the second marker.
  8. Shoulder Continuation:
    • Continue the suzette stitch pattern in rows until the panel rests 2 inches past the tip of your shoulder.
  9. Repeat:
    • Create a second identical piece.

Back Panel:

  1. Chain:
    • Chain the same number from the last shoulder row (e.g., ch 59).
  2. Row Pattern:
    • Work suzette stitch rows (same as front panel) but without increases/decreases, until the panel matches the width across your back (including the additional length past shoulders).

Seaming:

  1. Shoulders:
    • Seam shoulders using a single crochet seam.
  2. Sides:
    • Seam sides, leaving the armholes (e.g., 8 inches/20 cm from top).

Sleeves (Make 2):

  1. Starting Chain:
    • Make starting chain for sleeve length (e.g., ch 51).
  2. Row Pattern (Suzette Stitch):
    • Use sleeve pattern similar to front panel's suzette stitches with each row connected to the body.
  3. Seaming Sleeve:
    • Seam sleeve using single crochet seam.
  4. Cuff:
    • Single crochet around bottom with primary color, then secondary color.
    • Work desired cuff length in double crochet and slip stitch rows (e.g., ch 10).

Bottom Band:

  1. Primary Color:
    • Single crochet around the bottom.
  2. Secondary Color:
    • Single crochet next row.
  3. Band Length:
    • Work double crochet and slip stitch rows as done for cuff, then seam together.

Front Band:

  1. Primary Color:
    • Single crochet from one corner up to the next and back.
  2. Band Length:
    • Work double crochet and slip stitch rows, seam together.

Hood:

  1. Primary Color:
    • Single crochet across collar.
  2. Secondary Color:
    • Set height: Double crochet rows with increases every 4th stitch.
  3. Hood Height:

  4. Seam Hood:
    • Seam hood with outside loops slip stitch seam.

Pockets (Make 2):

  1. Primary Color:

  2. Shape Upper Row:
