Materials Needed
- Yarn: Red Heart Soft (or similar #4 worsted weight yarn)
- Crochet Hook: 5.5mm (I)
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- dc: double crochet
- sc: single crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
- tr: treble crochet
- UK dc: UK double crochet (US single crochet)
- UK tr: UK treble crochet (US double treble crochet)
Instructions
Setup:
- Chain 68.
- Join to form a ring, being careful not to twist.
- Chain 1, and sc in the same chain.
Round 1:
- Yarn over twice (for US treble crochet).
- Skip 1 stitch and in the next stitch, work a "shell” (3 tr in the same stitch).
- Skip 1 stitch and sc in the next.
- Repeat: (Skip 1 stitch, 3 tr in the next stitch, skip 1 stitch, sc in the next) to the end.
- End the round with a sl st in the starting sc.
Round 2:
- Ch 4 (counts as tr).
- Turn and into the same stitch, work 2 tr.
- Sc in the top of the next shell.
- Yarn over twice, and into the sc between shells, work another shell (3 tr).
- Repeat: (sc in the top of the next shell, 3 tr in the next sc between shells) to the end.
- Sl st to the starting ch-4.
For Round 3:
- Sl st into the next stitch over.
- Ch 1, turn, sc into the same stitch.
- Yarn over twice, and into the sc between shells, work another shell (3 tr).
- Sc in the next shell.
- Continue round: (Shell in the sc between shells, sc in the next shell) to the end.
- End with a sl st to the starting sc.
Round 4:
- Ch 4, turn, 2 tr in the same stitch.
- Sc in the next shell.
- Shell into the sc space.
- Repeat round to the end.
- End with sl st into the starting ch-4.
Round 5:
- Ch 1, turn, sc in the same stitch.
- Shell in the next sc space.
- Sc in the center of the shell.
- Shell in the sc between shells.
- Chain 7: (Sc in the top of next shell, chain 7, sc in the sc between shells) to end.
- Sl st into the starting sc.
Continue Adjusting:
- Adjust the chain increases based on pineapple formation in the middle (Chain 6 or 7 as per round instructions).
- Always slip stitch over for starting if increasing shells.
Assignment:
- Repeat rounds 19 and 20, ensuring to create increase rounds.
- Measure 8 inches from the designated point using visual markers.
