  • Crochet hook (4 mm recommended)
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle

Starting the Strawberry Patch:

  • Create a chain that is slightly smaller than the width of your book sleeve, which should be a multiple of 4 (e.g., 16, 20, 24).
  • Begin with a long end for sewing later and make a slip knot.
  • Chain 20 loosely (or the number required for your sleeve size).

First Round:

  • Skip the first chain from the hook and do a single crochet in the second chain.
  • Continue with single crochets all the way across.
  • Flip your work at the end of the round without chaining one.

Save

Second Round:

  • Starting closest to the hook do one single crochet in the first three stitches.
  • Then, in the following stitch, make five double crochets to form a 'strawberry'.
  • Repeat this pattern (three single crochets, one in each stitch followed by five double crochets in the next stitch) across the round.

Third Round:

  • Cut the red yarn and switch to light green yarn.
  • Make a slip knot with a long starting end to weave in later.
  • Attach yarn and do a single crochet in the last stitch of the previous round.
  • In the five stitches where you previously made five double crochets, do a five-together decrease (five dc decrease) followed by chain one and a slip stitch to complete the strawberry shape.

Save

Continue the pattern of three single crochets followed by the five-together decrease across the round.

Fourth Round:

  • Switch back to red yarn, create a slip knot, and attach to the first stitch.
  • Single crochet in the first stitch, then five double crochets in the next stitch to set the strawberries in between the previous round's strawberries.

Continue the pattern of one single crochet in the next three stitches, then five double crochet in the following stitch across the round.

Fifth Round:

  • Repeat the steps from the third round using green yarn, working the decrease over the five double crochets from the previous round to form the strawberry shapes.

Repeat Pattern:

  • From round two to round five, continue repeating the sequence to reach the desired length for your patch.

Finishing and Attaching Patch:

  • Once the patch reaches the required length, sew it onto the book sleeve using the initial long end of yarn from the starting chain.

Save

Use the darning needle to sew the patch onto the book sleeve, ensuring the patch remains in position.

  • Hide all loose ends by weaving them into the stitches of the same color with your darning needle.

Completion:

  • After securing and hiding all yarn ends, your strawberry patch should be attached neatly onto the book sleeve.
