The repeated patterns across the fabric make it an attractive addition to your wardrobe. So when the air gets nippy, you can pull on your creation, proud that with each stitch, you've made not just a garment but a piece of wearable art.

 Materials Needed:

  • 4 ply yarn
  • 3.50 mm crochet hook

Sweater Pattern:

1

Base Chain:

  • Start with a slip knot.
  • Chain (ch) 108 - This should be a multiple of 4 and about 24 inches long.
  • Join with a slip stitch (sl st) into the first chain (1st ch) to form a loop.

Foundation Row:

2

  • Chain 3 (ch 3) - This counts as your first double crochet (1st dc).
  • Make 1 double crochet (dc) into each chain around.
  • Join with a slip stitch (sl st) into the third chain (3rd ch).

Row 2-8: Forming the Ribbing

  • Chain 3 (ch 3).
  • Make 1 front post stitch (fps) and 1 back post stitch (bps) - Repeat this sequence around the row.
  • End the row by joining with a slip stitch into the third chain.
  • Repeat this row until you complete Row 8.

For Row 9: Start of V Stitch Pattern

  • Chain 3 (ch 3) and 1 double crochet (dc) into the very first stitch (1st st).
  • Skip 1 stitch (skip 1 st) and make 2 dc into the next st.
  • Continue the pattern (skip 1, 2 dc into next) around the row.
  • Join with a slip stitch into the third chain.
  • This row creates the setup for the V stitch with 2dc forming the V.

3

Row 10 to 30: Continuing V Stitch

  • Chain 3 (ch 3), then make 1 dc into the middle of the chain 3 and 1st dc.
  • 2 dc into the middle of these 2 stitches - This creates the V stitch.
  • Repeat the V stitch into the middle of each V stitch from the previous row.
  • Continue this pattern until you've completed Row 30.

Creating the Armholes:

  • Mark the 27th stitch from both sides for the front and back.
  • Skip 2 V stitches and mark the 3rd one for both armholes on both sides.
  • For the back part, skip to the 24th V stitch for armhole starting point.
  • Begin by making 1 single stitch (single st), chain 2 and 1 double crochet (dc) into the same stitch.
  • Make 1 V stitch into each V stitch until the 2nd armhole. Turn the work and repeat.
  • Follow the armhole pattern for a total of 13 rows.

4

Neckline:

  • Mark the middle stitch for the neck. Start from the armhole and follow the established V stitch pattern, adjusting for the neckline by decreasing the stitches over successive rows to match the back part's length.

Joining Front and Back:

  • After completing both the front and back sections, join them together at the shoulders.

Neck and Armhole Borders:

  • For the neck border, join the yarn at the middle V stitch.
  • Chain 1 and make 1 single stitch into the same place, then 1 single stitch into each space all around the neck.

  • For the armhole, follow a similar pattern, ensuring 4 rounds of single stitches for a neat finish.

Finishing Touches:

  • Sew the ends of the neck together as described, and repeat the process for the armholes.
  • After completing all these steps, your V stitch sweater is ready.
