Materials:

  • Category 4 yarn (460g, approximately 920 yards)
  • 6.5 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers
  • Tape measure

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Extended half double crochet (exhdc)

Notes:

This pattern is for a size small. Adjustments can be made to size as explained in the video.

Front Panel:

  1. Starting Chain:
    • Make a slip knot using category 4 yarn.
    • Chain for the length from the top of the shoulder to the bottom of the top. For a cropped look, chain 40 (approximately 29 cm or 11.5 inches).

  2. Row 1:
    • Yarn over, insert the hook into the third chain from the hook, yarn over and pull through (three loops on the hook).
    • Yarn over, pull through the first loop (three loops on the hook).
    • Yarn over, pull through all three loops (extended half double crochet).
    • Continue extended half double crochets in each chain across.

  3. Rows 2-10 (shoulder portion):
    • Chain 2 (turning chain) and turn.
    • Work one extended half double crochet in the back loop only of each stitch across.
  4. Neckline:
    • Insert a stitch marker into the stitch nearest to the base of your neck (approximately 3 inches or 8 cm from the top). For this pattern, it is the 11th stitch.
    • Continue working extended half double crochets in the back loop until the stitch before the stitch marker.
  5. Chest Area:
    • Chain 2 and turn.
    • Work extended half double crochet in the back loop of each stitch across.
    • Continue until the chest portion reaches from the base of one side of the neck to the other side.
    • Total rows for this section should be about 21 (12 inches or 30 cm).
  6. Second Shoulder Portion:
    • Make a chain equivalent to the number of stitches skipped from the neckline start (for this tutorial, chain 11).
    • Work in extended half double crochet back loop rows for the same number of rows as the first shoulder portion.

Back Panel:

  1. Repeat:
    • Follow the same steps as the front panel but without the neckline cutout.

Assembly:

  1. Seaming Shoulders:
    • Place the front panel on top of the back panel.
    • Insert the hook into the top corner stitch of both panels.
    • Work two single crochets into every side row through both panels.
    • Repeat for the other shoulder.
  2. Hood:
    • With the right side out, insert the hook into any stitch within the neck hole.
    • Insert stitch marker in the middle row of the front panel neckline.
    • Work two single crochets into each side row and one single crochet into each stitch around.
    • Ensure to put stitch markers into the stitches worked into the middle row.
    • Continue working extended half double crochets in the back loop, ensuring there are no increases or decreases until the hood is the desired height (approximately 15 inches or 38 cm).
    • Seaming the hood: Press the corners together and flip wrong side out. Work single crochet out through the hood's edge.

Sleeves:

  1. Seaming Sides:
    • With the wrong side out, insert a stitch marker to indicate the sleeve width (approximately 18 cm or 7 inches from the top).
    • Seam up the side using single crochets.
  2. For Sleeve Length:
    • With the right side out, insert the hook into the nearest stitch by the side seam within the armhole.
    • Chain the length you like (for long sleeve 16.5 inches or 42 cm - chain 50).
    • Work down in slip stitch rows.
    • Continue working in the pattern by connecting it to the base with two slip stitches, repeating until all stitches have been worked.

    • Turn right side out.
    • Insert the hook into any side row of the sleeve and single crochet around.
