Front Panel:
- Starting Chain:
- Make a slip knot using category 4 yarn.
- Chain for the length from the top of the shoulder to the bottom of the top. For a cropped look, chain 40 (approximately 29 cm or 11.5 inches).
- Row 1:
- Yarn over, insert the hook into the third chain from the hook, yarn over and pull through (three loops on the hook).
- Yarn over, pull through the first loop (three loops on the hook).
- Yarn over, pull through all three loops (extended half double crochet).
- Continue extended half double crochets in each chain across.
- Rows 2-10 (shoulder portion):
- Chain 2 (turning chain) and turn.
- Work one extended half double crochet in the back loop only of each stitch across.
- Neckline:
- Insert a stitch marker into the stitch nearest to the base of your neck (approximately 3 inches or 8 cm from the top). For this pattern, it is the 11th stitch.
- Continue working extended half double crochets in the back loop until the stitch before the stitch marker.
- Chest Area:
- Chain 2 and turn.
- Work extended half double crochet in the back loop of each stitch across.
- Continue until the chest portion reaches from the base of one side of the neck to the other side.
- Total rows for this section should be about 21 (12 inches or 30 cm).
- Second Shoulder Portion:
- Make a chain equivalent to the number of stitches skipped from the neckline start (for this tutorial, chain 11).
- Work in extended half double crochet back loop rows for the same number of rows as the first shoulder portion.
Back Panel:
- Repeat:
- Follow the same steps as the front panel but without the neckline cutout.
Assembly:
- Seaming Shoulders:
- Place the front panel on top of the back panel.
- Insert the hook into the top corner stitch of both panels.
- Work two single crochets into every side row through both panels.
- Repeat for the other shoulder.
- Hood:
- With the right side out, insert the hook into any stitch within the neck hole.
- Insert stitch marker in the middle row of the front panel neckline.
- Work two single crochets into each side row and one single crochet into each stitch around.
- Ensure to put stitch markers into the stitches worked into the middle row.
- Continue working extended half double crochets in the back loop, ensuring there are no increases or decreases until the hood is the desired height (approximately 15 inches or 38 cm).
- Seaming the hood: Press the corners together and flip wrong side out. Work single crochet out through the hood's edge.
Sleeves:
- Seaming Sides:
- With the wrong side out, insert a stitch marker to indicate the sleeve width (approximately 18 cm or 7 inches from the top).
- Seam up the side using single crochets.
- For Sleeve Length:
- With the right side out, insert the hook into the nearest stitch by the side seam within the armhole.
- Chain the length you like (for long sleeve 16.5 inches or 42 cm - chain 50).
- Work down in slip stitch rows.
- Continue working in the pattern by connecting it to the base with two slip stitches, repeating until all stitches have been worked.
- Cuff:
- Turn right side out.
- Insert the hook into any side row of the sleeve and single crochet around.
- Chain the length of the cuff desired (approximately 2 inches or 5 cm - chaining 8).
- Work back-loop slip stitch rows.
- Connect to continue back-loop slip stitches, seam outside, finish with a chain, and cut.
