Step-by-Step Instructions

Creating the Magic Circle

  1. Start with a magic circle (or alternatively, chain 3 and slip stitch into the first chain to form a ring, then chain 1).
  2. Chain 1.

Round 1

  1. Make 6 single crochets (sc) inside the magic circle.
  2. Tighten the magic circle slightly, but avoid closing it completely.
  3. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch to mark the beginning of the round.

Round 2

  1. Single crochet twice in each of the 6 stitches (total of 12 sc).
  2. Move the stitch marker to the start of the next round.

Round 3

  1. Single crochet in the first stitch, then 2 single crochets in the next stitch.
  2. Repeat: 1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the following stitch (total of 18 sc).
  3. Mark the beginning of the round after every row.

Continuing Growth

  1. Next rounds repeat the pattern, increasing the number of single crochets by one each round:
    • Round 4: 2 sc + increase (total of 24 sc).
    • Round 5: 3 sc + increase (total of 30 sc).
    • Continue until you reach 8 sc + increase (total of 72 sc).

Mid-section Rows

  1. Rows 9 to 15: Single crochet stitch to stitch (no increases or decreases).

Resuming Increases

  1. Round 16: 9 sc + increase.
  2. Round 17: 10 sc + increase.
  3. Continue the pattern until you reach 14 sc + increase (total of 96 sc).

Finishing Row

  1. Slip stitch into the next chain to bring the stitches together.
  2. Chain 3, then make 4 double crochets (dc) in the skipped stitch.
  3. Skip one chain and slip stitch into the next.
  4. Repeat the pattern: Skip one chain, make 4 dc, and continue around until the end.

Conclusion

  1. Finish off and hide the tails using a darning needle.
  2. The cozy can be used inside-out as desired.
  3. Feel free to share your finished projects on Whip and Chain's Facebook and Instagram pages.
