Free Crochet Crab Pattern

MATERIALS:

  • YARN: Pink, turquoise, yellow (I used 100% acrylic yarn)
  • HOOK SIZE: 2.00 mm (for main body)
  • 1.75 mm (for legs and claws)
  • YARN NEEDLE
  • FIBER FILL
  • SAFETY EYES (9.00 mm)

ABBREVIATION:

  • MR: Magic Ring
  • sc: single crochet
  • dc double crochet
  • ch: chain
  • inc: increase
  • dec: decrease
  • st: stitch
  • f.o.: finish off b.l.o.: back loops only R: Row

MAIN BODY (Use pink yarn):

  • 23ch Start from 2nd chain from the hook
  • R1: (2 sc in same ch), 20 sc, (3 sc in same ch), 21 sc = 46 st R2: (3 sc in same st), 22 sc, (3 sc in same st), 22 sc= 50 st R3: 1 sc in each st (b.l.o.) = 50 st
  • R4 – 8:1 sc in each st = 50 st
  • R9: (23 sc, dec)x 2 = 48 st
  • R10: (10 sc, dec) x 4 = 44 st
  • R11: (9 sc, dec) x 4 = 40 st
  • R12: (8 sc, dec) x 4 = 36 st
  • R13: (7 sc, dec) x 4 = 32 st

If you are using safety eyes, then attach them between rows 12 and 13

  • R14: (6 sc, dec) x 4 = 28 st

Start stuffing and continue stuffing as you make the rows

  • R15: (5 sc, dec) x 4 = 24 st
  • R16: (4 sc, dec) x 4 = 20 st
  • R17: (3 sc, dec) x 4 = 16 st
  • R18: (2 sc, dec) x 4 = 12 st
  • R19: (1 sc, dec) x 4 = 8 st
  • R20: (2 sc, dec)2 = 6st
  • f.o.

Legs (make 6 using pink yarn):

  • MR, 4sc into the MR
  • R(1-8): sc in all 4 st = 4st

CLAWS (Make 2 sets using pink yarn):

Claws

  • MR, 4 sc into the MR
  • R1: 4 sc = 4 st
  • R2: (1 sc, inc) x 2 = 6 st
  • R3: 6 sc = 6 st

Make 4 of these, 2 for each set of claws

Attaching claws:

  • CLAW A
  • CLAW B PIC 1
  • PIC 2 (4.75m)

 

  • R1: Insert hook from Claw A to Claw B (as shown in Pic 2) and make sc. Then continue sc around Claw B, making 6 sc. Now, starting from the same st that you made a sc into Claw B, insert hook into Claw A and sc around Claw A, making 6 sc, giving a total of 12 sc
  • R2: sc all around = 12 st R3: (1 sc, dec) x 4 = 8 st R4: (2 sc, dec) x 2 = 6 st R(5-8): 6 sc = 6 st

Flower:

Using Yellow Yarn

  • MR, 5 sc into MR, sl st into first st
  • f.o.

Using Turquoise yarn:

  • ch 2, dc in same st 4 times and pull through all loops to make a puff stitch, ch 2, sl st into next st
    (Repeat for all 5 stitches)
  • f.o.

Assembling:

  • 1.Sew the claws on the top of the head.
  • 2.Sew the legs (3 each) on either side of the body
  • 3. Sew the flower on the side of the head
  • 4. Make eyebrows (optional) with black yarn
