Suzette Stitch Sweater Vest Pattern

1 Save

Supplies Needed:

  • White Category 4 Yarn
  • 5.5 Millimeter Hook

Bottom Border:

  • Start with a slip knot.
  • Chain 9.
  • Begin Row 1: Skip the first chain. Insert hook into the second chain, single crochet.
  • Continue single crocheting across, then chain 1 and turn your work.
  • Row 2: Skip the first chain. Back bar single crochet in each stitch across, chain 1, then turn.
  • Repeat Row 2 until you have a total of 39 rows (adjust rows per size indicated in the pattern).

2 Save

Color Change & Front Panel Construction:

  • Change color at the end of the bottom border.
  • Moving to the front panel, work across the top edge of the base.
  • Chain 1 (does not count as the first stitch).
  • Work a pattern of single crochet and double crochet into the same stitch, skip a row, and repeat across the top edge.
  • Repeat this pattern for a total of 18 rows for the back panel and 12 rows for the front panel.

3 Save

Decreases for Back Panel:

  • Chain and turn, begin with a half double crochet decrease across the first two stitches.
  • Follow by Suzette Stitch Pattern (single crochet + double crochet in one stitch, skip next) until you have 6 stitches left.
  • End the row with two half double crochet decreases.
  • Repeat this decrease pattern for a total of 3 rows.

Transition to Regular Pattern for Bodice:

  • After decreases, switch back to the regular Suzette stitch pattern for an additional 24 rows for the back panel.

4 Save

Front Panel Neckline & Shoulder Straps:

  • Work the Suzette stitch for 12 stitches, chain 1, and turn.
  • Follow a decrease pattern for a total of 12 rows.
  • Repeat the same steps for the opposite side for symmetry.

Joining Front and Back Panels:

  • Seam the side edges and shoulder straps with a whip stitch.

5 Save

Finishing Touches (Borders and Edging):

  • Work single crochets around the armhole.
  • Then, follow by a series of back bar single crochets for a border.
  • Chain 7, then single crochet back down chain for collar edging.
  • Connect the collar to the bodice with a whip stitch, ensure to flip the project inside out for seaming.
