How To Crochet Fingerless Gloves Twisted Feather

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: Category 4 weight
    • Example used in the video: Yarn Bee's Rustic Romance (228 yards)
  • Hook: 5 mm crochet hook
  • Others: Scissors, Tapestry needle, Stitch marker

Steps:

1. Creating the Ribbed Band

  1. Chain 13.
  2. Row 1: Skip the first chain from the hook, single crochet into the second chain and each chain across. (12 single crochets)
  3. Row 2: Chain 1, turn. Single crochet through both loops of the first stitch, single crochet in the back loops only for the next 10 stitches, single crochet through both loops of the last stitch.
  4. Row 3-26: Repeat Row 2 for a total of 26 rows.

2. Joining the Ribbed Band

  1. Fold the band in half, join with a slip stitch through both loops of the first and last rows of single crochets.

3. Forming the Base of the Glove

  1. Turn your band inside out.
  2. Round 1: Chain 1, half double crochet in each row around (26 half double crochets). Slip stitch to first half double crochet.
  3. Rounds 2-3: Repeat Round 1.

4. Feather Stitch Rounds

  1. Round 4: Chain 1.
    • First Feather Stitch: Yarn over, pull up a loop between the chain space and the first half double crochet, skip two half double crochets, yarn over, pull up a loop between next two half double crochets, yarn over, pull up a loop in the space directly above the second loop. Yarn over and pull through all loops. Chain 1 to secure.
    • Subsequent Feather Stitches: Start with the last leg of the previous feather stitch, skip two half double crochets, yarn over, pull up a loop between next two half double crochets below, yarn over, pull up a loop in the space directly above the second loop. Yarn over and pull through all loops. Chain 1 to secure.
    • Repeat until the end (Total: 13 feather stitches).
  2. Place a stitch marker to mark the last feather stitch.
  3. Round 5:
    • First Feather Stitch: Hug each feather stitch, yarn over and pull through the space directly before the feather stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop directly under the feather stitch, yarn over and pull through the space directly after the feather stitch. Chain 1 to secure.
    • Continue to hug each feather stitch as above for six rounds.

5. Adding Increases for Thumb Hole

  1. Round 6: Add a half double crochet between the feather stitches for the increase.
  2. Complete feather stitches around, incorporating the half double crochets into the stitches.
  3. Add another half double crochet between the feather stitches at the pointed increase section.

6. Creating Thumb Hole

  1. Feather stitch as usual until you reach the last feather stitch before the thumb hole.
  2. Add a half double crochet in the same stitch.
  3. Skip four feather stitches (thumb hole) and continue feather stitches around, incorporating the skipped stitches.
  4. Complete four additional rounds.

7. Finishing the Glove

  1. Rounding Off:
    • Row 1: Half double crochet in each stitch around.
    • Row 2: Single crochet in first half double crochet, slip stitch to next.
  2. Invisible Slip Stitch:
    • Remove hook from yarn, insert hook from back of next stitch, pull yarn through. Cut yarn and weave in ends.

Notes:

  • You can customize the size by increasing or decreasing the rows for the ribbed band, or the number of repeats for the feather stitch.
  • Adjust thumb hole placement according to personal fit.
