Hello Creative minds! In our latest post you will crochet stylish and comfy socks using the transverse technique. The pattern creates neat toes and seamless connections, perfect for sizes 37-38 but easily adjustable for any size. Follow along the pattern and make coziest gifts for love ones of all ages!

Easy Crochet Socks Knitting for Beginners

These thick textured socks feature loose chain stitches, connecting loops, and clear row-by-row instructions. Versatile in design, they can be worn with or without a lapel, offering both warmth and a touch of handcrafted charm. Let's get creative and make winter a bit cozier!

Making The Crochet Socks

This pattern uses the transverse technique for crocheting socks.
The instructions are for size 37-38. Adjustments for other sizes are noted within the pattern.

Materials:

  • Yarn: Alize Lanaold Classic, 100 g / 240 m, 51% acrylic and 49% wool (1 skein for up to size 38)
  • Hook: 5 mm
  • Markers
  • Pin and needle with a large eye

Step by step Instructions

Starting Chain:

  1. Make a loop and then a hook to crochet the first chain loop. Do not tighten it.
  2. Crochet 70 chain loops for size 37-38. Add two chain stitches for each additional size:
    • Size 39-40: Cast on 72 chain stitches.
    • Size 35-36: Cast on 68 chain stitches.
  3. The unstretched chain length for size 37-38 is approximately 45.5 cm.

Row 1:

  1. Make one extra air loop at the end of the chain.
  2. Insert the hook into the second loop from the hook, pull through, and knit through the loop on the hook. Continue this for all loops, marking the last loop with a marker.
  3. You should have 70 connecting stitches. Mark the last loop.
  4. Turn your work.

Row 2:

  1. Make one air loop.
  2. Knit subsequent rows grabbing the back loop only. Insert into the second loop from the hook, pull through, and make a connecting stitch to the end.
  3. Knit the last loop through both walls of the loop.
  4. Repeat this for rows 3 and 4.

Rows 3-4:

Continue knitting connecting loops to the end, marking the loops where necessary to keep track.

Row 5 (Start Decreases):

  1. Make an air loop and turn it over.
  2. Knit from the second loop from the hook, grabbing the back wall, and knit to the marker, leaving one loop unknitted.
  3. Decrease one loop: Pull a loop through the back wall of the loop, do not knit, insert hook into the next loop, grab the thread, pull through first two loops, then three loops on the hook together.
  4. Mark this decrease.

Rows 6-11:

Repeat similar decrease steps where necessary:

  1. At the end of each row, make an air loop and turn.
  2. From the second loop from the hook, knit to the marker, and make the necessary decreases close to the marker.
  3. At the end row 11, gather all unknitted loops at the toe and knit them together with connecting loops.

Rows 12-19:

Similar steps as row 11:

  1. Knit the rows to the marker or toe, making decreases as needed.
  2. For each row, ensure to mark and track decreases properly.

Rows 20-28:

  1. Knit full rows without decreases from the toe to the top of the sock.

Row 29-35 (Forming Steps):

  1. Knit to the toe without finishing the last two loops, forming steps downwards.
  2. Ensure proper decreases and knitting steps are tailored for toe forming.

Row 36-43 (Heel Increases):

  1. Make heel increases in these rows by knitting three single crochets in marked loops.
  2. Ensure increases are marked properly till the seventh increase.

Rows 44-48:

  1. Knit full connecting stitches rows in this segment from toe to top.

Finishing:

  1. Sew the sides with a connecting stitch ensuring a seamless join on the front side.
  2. Finally, gather and tighten the toe stitches to create a neat toe finish.
  3. Weave the ends into the fabric using a needle with a large eye.

Note:

This pattern is specifically designed for a flexible sock size and can fit snugly due to the stretchable nature of the stitches used. Always ensure your stitches are not knitted too tightly.
