Materials:
- Measuring tape in centimeters
- Scissors
- Buttons (4 or 5 depending on size)
- Stitch markers
- Needle
- 4 mm Crochet hook (main part of the cardigan)
- 3 mm Crochet hook (for neckline)
- Lightweight yarn or DK weight yarn (~150 grams for larger size, ~100 grams for smaller size)
Notes:
- Using measurements rather than stitch count.
- Use single crochet ribbing at the bottom, sleeves, and neckline.
- This pattern starts from the top and works down.
Sizes:
- 0 to 6 months (smaller side closer to 0 to 3 months)
- 6 to 12 months (smaller side closer to 6 to 9 months)
Instructions:
Yoke
Starting Loops:
- For 0 to 6 months, make 18 loops.
- For 6 to 12 months, make 19 loops.
- To create a loop: Chain 3, double crochet into the bottom chain (repeat until you have the desired number of loops).
Row 1:
- Chain 2, crochet two half double crochets in the middle of each loop, chain 2, two half double crochets (repeat this pattern for each loop).
- End with a half double crochet in the last chain.
Corner Marking:
Place stitch markers as follows:
- Skip 2 loops, mark the 3rd.
- Skip 3 loops, mark the 4th.
- For the bigger size skip 5, mark. For the smaller size skip 4, mark.
Repeat symmetrically for the other side.
Row 2:
- Chain 2, turn.
- Regular fans (2 half double crochets, chain 2, 2 half double crochets) until the corner.
- At corners: 2 half double crochets, chain 2, 2 half double crochets, chain 2, 2 half double crochets.
Row 3 (and onwards till desired chest measurement):
- Chain 2, turn.
- Continue regular fans in between markers.
- At corners, chain 1 between 2 full fans.
Checking Yoke Measurement:
- Measure from one corner stitch marker to the opposite one for back width (approx. 24 cm for 0-6 months, 26 cm for 6-12 months).
Connecting Yoke:
If on Rows 1 or 2:
- Chain 2, 3 half double crochets between loops at underarm, continue regular fans, 3 half double crochets opposite side, slip stitch to start.
- Turn.
If on Rows 3 or 4:
- Chain 2, 2 half double crochets between loops at underarm, chain 2, continue regular fans, 2 half double crochets opposite side, slip stitch to start.
Turn.
Body:
Continue working fans:
- Repeat the fan pattern (2 half double crochets, chain 2, 2 half double crochets).
Length:
- Continue to desired length minus 4 cm (for ribbing).
Ribbing:
Prepare by chaining 4:
- Single crochet in back loop only, join to the body with slip stitch.
- Chain up and down length of the ribbing, working back loop only.
- Continue around the body.
Sleeves:
Attach yarn at the underarm:
- Chain 2, around the sleeve using fans, decreasing near underarm (dc instead of hdc).
Continue to desired sleeve length minus 3 cm (for ribbing):
- Continue fan pattern reducing sleeve stitches as mentioned.
Sleeve Ribbing:
- Similar to the body, chain 3-4 for cuff length, single crochet back loop only, joining while going around.
Finishing:
- Sew in all ends.
- Attach buttons and make buttonholes (as many as preferred).
Adjustments:
- Pattern measurements are adjustable based on the yarn and gauge used.
- Can be made larger or smaller by adding/subtracting chains and rows as needed.
Final Notes:
- Be patient with neck decreases and ensure to follow along with the video if visual guidance is needed.
