  • Finished sunflower (including petals) measures approx. 11 cm.
  • For best appearance, weave in all ends securely.

Instructions

Center (Brown)

Round 1:

  1. MR, ch 1.
  2. Work 6 sc into the MR.
  3. Pull tight to close the ring.

  2. In next st, dc.
  3. In same st, 2 tr (wrap yarn twice) (Note: “tr” equals treble, but for this pattern, follow the video instruction of wrapping twice, which equals double treble if using US terms, but use as “dc” if working regular double crochet in 2 mm yarn).
  4. Picot: Ch 2, insert hook into first ch, sl st (or sc as in the video) to form a pointed tip.
  5. In same st, 2 dc.
  6. Ch 3.
    Save
  7. Sk next st, sc in next. (Petals anchor to flower in every other stitch, so that they’re well-spaced. Adjust as needed to fit around the circle evenly.)
  8. Repeat steps 1–7 for each petal around.
  9. For the last petal, finish with a sl st, fasten off, and weave in ends.

Alternative Picot Tip:
For a different shaped petal tip, ch 2, insert hook through the next front and back loops at tip, sl st/sc to complete the picot.

Stem (Green)

  1. Ch 22.
  2. Starting from 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each ch across — you will have 20 hdc.
  3. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Leaves (Make 2, Green)

First Leaf:

  1. Ch 7.
  2. Starting from 2nd ch from hook:
    • Sc in next ch.
    • Hdc in next ch.
    • Dc in next 2 ch (one in each).
    • Hdc in next ch.
    • Sc in last ch.
      Save
  3. Picot Tip:
    • In same st, sc, ch 2, sl st (or sc as video) through both picot ch and adjacent strand for a pointed leaf tip.
  4. Continue working down opposite side of foundation chain:
    • Sc in next ch.
    • Hdc in next ch.
    • Dc in next 2 ch.
    • Hdc in next ch, sc in last, sl st to foundation.
  5. Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing.

Second Leaf:

  • Repeat as for first leaf.
    Save

Assembly

  1. Attach first leaf to the stem:
    • Count 11 hdc from stem end, and sew/secure leaf here.
  2. Attach second leaf approximately 2 chains above or below the first, opposite side.
  3. Position stem behind flower so that it extends below the petals. Sew or glue it securely to the back of the sunflower.
  4. Weave in ends and glue or sew any decorative elements or the keychain pendant as desired.
    Save

Conclusion

Your sunflower keychain is now complete! Use it to brighten your keys, bags, or as a delightful gift. Feel free to customize the flower by adjusting leaf size or adding embellishments.

Pattern Correction

  • The video at times refers to a "double crochet" while wrapping the hook twice (which is technically a treble in US terms).
Correction: For petals, use double crochet unless you want exaggerated tall petals; for larger petals, use treble crochet.

Tips

  • Mark your rounds on the center with a stitch marker to avoid confusion.
  • Tension is key: work the petals with even tension for them to lay flat.
  • Picot variations: Try both picot endings recommended to find which you prefer for the petal tips.
  • For sturdier keychains, consider sewing pieces together rather than gluing.
  • Personalize with beads, extra leaves, or a different keychain hardware.
