Before You Start
- Read the entire pattern before beginning.
- Familiarize yourself with the magic ring, working in the round, and invisible decrease techniques.
- Prepare your yarn, hook, and supplies ahead of starting.
- Use a stitch marker to keep your place, especially for amigurumi worked in continuous spirals.
- Safety eyes can be swapped with embroidery or felt for young children.
Pattern Notes
- Pikachu is worked in continuous spirals (do not join or turn unless specified).
- Use tight, even stitches to prevent stuffing from showing.
- The pattern uses increases and invisible decreases for shaping.
- Items such as arms, legs, ears, cheeks, and tail are crocheted separately and then sewn to the body.
- The tail is made with color changes and chains, using rows rather than rounds, to achieve the iconic zigzag shape.
- The cheeks in this pattern are crafted with sparkly red yarn but may be substituted with plain red.
How I Made the Crochet Pattern
- Created the head and body as a single, seamless piece for easy assembly.
- Used basic amigurumi increases and decreases to shape the oval body and head.
- Designed separate pieces for arms, legs, and ears for simple customization.
- Tail constructed in a zigzag using chains and single crochet with color work.
- Simple sewing and embroidery finishes off Pikachu’s adorable face.
Skill Level
- Confident Beginner: You should know the basic stitches (chain, sc), how to work in the round, increase, invisible decrease, and simple sewing/embroidery.

Assembly & Finishing
- Sew ears to head, angling for your Pikachu’s desired personality.
- Sew arms a little off-center, just below the head, so the edge aligns with the eyes.
- Sew legs at sides of the flat body base for stability.
- Sew cheeks just below the eyes and slightly to the sides.
- Sew tail to lower back at an angle; use the remaining brown yarn to embroider two short stripes across the back.
- Embroider nose with black yarn: one short horizontal line between/just below the eyes.
- Embroider smile: Black yarn in a zigzag/w shape beneath the nose.
Solution of Problem
Problem: Stuffing pokes through the stitches.
Solution: Use a smaller hook for tight stitches; do not overstuff. Light, even stuffing is best.
