Materials Needed:
- 5 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Stylecraft Special Chunky yarn (or any yarn of your choice)
Instructions:
Starting the Headband:
- Begin with a slip knot. For a child (about 7 years old), crochet 70 chains. For an adult, crochet about 80 to 85 chains. Make sure the chain fits comfortably around your head, not too tight or too loose.
- Row 1: Start in the second chain from the hook (the loop on the hook does not count as a stitch). Insert your hook into the chain, yarn over, pull up a loop (two loops on hook), yarn over, and pull through both loops on the hook (single crochet). Continue making one single crochet in every chain across.
Creating the Pattern:
- Row 2 (Repeat Row): Chain 1 and turn your work. You'll now work into the back loops only. Instead of inserting your hook under both top loops of the stitch, you only go through the back loop. Make a single crochet in the back loop of every stitch across.
- Continuing the Headband: Repeat Row 2 for each subsequent row until the headband reaches your desired width. The video example shows a headband with a total of 19 rows for an adult size, but you can adjust this number according to how wide you want your headband.
Finishing Off:
- Securing the End: Once you've crocheted to your satisfaction, chain 1 and pull the yarn through tightly. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.
- Sewing the Headband Closed: Thread the yarn tail through a needle and sew the ends of the headband together, making sure the seam is neat and even.
Creating the Band:
Making the Band:
- Start with a slip knot and crochet 15 chains (adjust based on the size of your headband).
- Repeat the process of inserting your hook into the second chain from the hook and making one single crochet in each chain across, for a total of 14 stitches.
- Chain 1 and turn your work, then make one single crochet in the back loop of each stitch across for 4 rows.
Finishing the Band: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull the yarn through and pull it tight to secure. Sew the yarn ends into the band to hide them.
Attaching the Band:
- Securing the Band to the Headband: Sew the band around the headband where the seam is, ensuring it's tight and secure. This band creates the cinched "bow" look.
