Step by step Pattern
Start with the Base Orange Circle: This serves as the base of the bag. Make two of these.
Start with a magic ring.
Make 10 half double crochet (HDC) into the ring. (Round 1)
Do a half-double crochet increase in every stitch for the next round. (Round 2)
Do one half double crochet in one stitch and half double crochet increase in the next, all around. (Round 3)
Repeat a similar pattern, adding an extra HDC in between the increases for each subsequent round until Round 8. Increase the number of HDC by one in each round.
Join the two circles together:
The two sides of the grocery bag.
Place the two crochet circles back-to-back.
Pick one circle to start, perform a single crochet connecting both sides together.
Leave a gap for the bag's opening.
Crochet the Bag Mesh:
Perform single crochet stitches around one side of the bag.
Attach the yarn to the top of the bag's edge.
Make multiple chains and single crochet into each of the stitches at the top of the bag.
Continue this in a round pattern until you get a web-like structure for the bag.
Make the Bag Handles:
When the mesh is complete, start on the handles.
Single crochet a strip that extends upwards from one side of the bag’s mouth. The length is based on what's preferred in a handle.
Do a few rows of these single crochets right atop each other to give the handle some width.
Repeat the same on the other side of the bag.
Complete the Handbag:
Connect the handle to the rest of the bag using a single crochet stitch.
Cut off any extra yarn, and secure the base to finish the bag.
