Step-by-Step Pattern Instructions

Step 1: Base Rows

Start with white yarn for the background.

  1. Make a slip knot and insert the hook into the loop.
  2. Chain a multiple of three, ensuring the chain length wraps around the book plus an additional 2 cm on the right side (for edge allowance).
  3. Add two more chains for turning.

Row 1: Single Crochet Base

  1. Skip the first stitch.
  2. Insert hook into the second stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over again, and pull through both loops (1 single crochet).

R- 6: Tulip Fan Motifs

  1. Chain 3, turn your work.
  2. In the chain-2 space of the previous row:
    • Crochet 5 double crochets together (cluster dc).
    • For each dc, yarn over, insert hook into the chain space, and pull through the first two loops only.
    • Once five dc are half-finished, yarn over and pull through all six loops on the hook at once.
  3. Chain 2, move to the next chain-2 space, and repeat:
    • Crochet another 5 dc together, followed by chain 2.
  4. Repeat this pattern across the row. For the final tulip cluster, do not chain at the end.

    • Work 1 single crochet.

  3. Continue all the way across:
    • Alternate 1 sc into the top of the tulip and 2 sc into each chain-2 space.

Rows 8+: Build Background Rows

  1. Chain 1, turn your work.
