Chic & Simple Crochet Small Bag Pattern For Everyday Essentials

This dainty little crochet bag is like a tiny treasure chest for your favorite things. Picture this: a soft, colorful pouch, made with love, where every loop and stitch is a whisper of warmth. It's the perfect size to hold your essentials - maybe a lip balm, some coins, and a key.

Swinging it by the handle, feeling the cozy,  texture, and knowing that this little buddy adds a sprinkle of fun to your day. It's not just a bag; it's a small bundle of joy, ready to accompany you on big adventures or just a trip to the corner store.

Materials:

  • 3mm cotton macrame yarn (approximately 400 grams total; 200 grams of each color)
  • 5mm crochet hook
  • Zipper
  • Clear plastic thread
  • Needle
  • Scissors

Crochet Small Bag step 1

Creating the Pieces:

Crochet Small Bag step 2

First Piece:

  • Start with a knot and chain 20.
  • Row 1: From the second chain, make single crochet (SC) stitches in the back loop only, for a total of 19 stitches.
  • Row 2: Chain 1, turn. Increase in the first stitch (2 SC in the same stitch), then SC in each stitch to the end. Make an increase in the last stitch. The row will have 21 stitches.
  • Rows 3-16: Make even rows, each with 21 SC stitches.

Crochet Small Bag step 3

Two Larger Pieces:

  • Start with a knot and chain 24 (working with 23 stitches from here).
  • Row 1: SC in the second chain and in each chain across (23 stitches).
  • Row 2: Chain 1, turn. Make an increase in the first and last stitch (25 stitches total).
  • Rows 3-20: Continue making even rows with 25 SC stitches each.

Adding a Border:

  • Use the alternate color for the border.

For each piece:

  • SC in front of each row except for the last 3 rows.
  • At the third row from the end, make 2 SC.
  • For the second row, make 1 SC.
  • For the first row, make 2 SC.

Continue with 1 SC in front of each remaining row.

  • Repeat with the larger pieces, maintaining the same increase pattern in front of the third and first rows.

Base and Sides:

Crochet Small Bag step 4

Start the Base:

  • Make a starting knot and chain 4.
  • Row 1: Work 3 SC stitches.
  • Attach the first semicircular ring.

Build Up Rows:

  • Row 2: Work 3 SC stitches.
  • Row 3: Work 3 SC stitches.
  • Row 4: Work 4 SC stitches (increase at the first stitch).
  • Rows 5-6: Work 4 SC stitches each.
  • Row 7: Work 5 SC stitches.
  • Rows 8-9: Work 5 SC stitches each.
  • Row 10: Work 6 SC stitches.

Crochet Small Bag step 5

Build Length:

  • Rows 11-50: Maintain a width of 6 SC stitches.

Decreasing Rows:

  • Row 51: Start with a decrease, then continue with 5 SC stitches.
  • Rows 52-54: Work 5 SC stitches each.
  • Rows 55-57: Work 4 SC stitches each.
  • Rows 58-60: Work 3 SC stitches each.

Crochet Small Bag step 6

Attach the second semicircular ring in the last row.

Creating Another Base Piece:

  • Follow the same steps as above for another base piece.
  • In the larger piece, continue with 51 rows of 6 SC stitches instead of 37.

Assembly:

Crochet Small Bag step 7

Attach the Zipper:

  • Cut the zipper to the suitable length.
  • Sew the zipper to the pocket first, folding the beginning down.
  • Use clear plastic thread and insert the needle under the two loops of the SC stitches on the zipper. Ensure the stitching is in one line.
  • Attach the second part of the zipper to the front of the bag just under the last two rows.

Crochet Small Bag step 8

Sewing the Bag:

  • Mark the stitching places on the front part of the bag to ensure alignment.
  • Sew the second zipper on the front and back pieces.
  • Assemble and attach the pocket to the bag, ensuring easy alignment using the rows as guidelines.
