Festive Style Simple Crochet Santa Face Pattern

Crochet a simple Santa face can add a charming touch to your holiday decor. Start by picking festive red, white, and black yarns. First, create the jolly rounded cheeks and nose using the red yarn. Then, use the white yarn for his iconic beard and trim of his hat.

Finish with black yarn for the eyes that twinkle like stars. This easy project is perfect for beginners and makes a delightful gift or keepsake that brings smiles every festive season.

Materials:

  • Yarn of various colors (Garnet for the hat, Soft Pink for the face, White for the beard and details)
  • Yarn weight: Light (Suggested: Mary Maxim Mellow Spun, which is on the thinner side of a weight 3 yarn)
  • Hook size: F hook (approximately 3.75mm but might vary based on your yarn choice)
  • Small pom poms for the eyes (or you can sew on eyes with black yarn)
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Optional: Safety pin, magnet, or hanger for attaching

Santa's Head and Hat:

  • Start with the face color: Make a slip knot on your hook, chain 4, slip stitch into the first chain to form a ring.
  • Round 1: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), work 10 double crochets (DC) through the center of the ring. Slip stitch into the first DC to close the round.
  • Round 2: Chain 1, in the same stitch and each stitch around, work 2 DC (increasing in every stitch). You should have 20 DCs at the end of this round. Slip stitch to close, then switch to white.

Santa's Beard:

  • With white yarn, starting from where you ended, work over 10 stitches to form the beard. In the first stitch, work 2 DCs, chain 3, and slip stitch into the same stitch. Continue this sequence across 10 stitches, creating loops that form the beard.

Santa Face 3

Top Part of Hat:

  • With the remaining 10 stitches (on the second half of the round), switch back to the hat color. Work 1 DC into each of the 10 stitches from the previous round.

Hat Finishing:

Now, to shape the hat, continue with the hat color yarn. Start by chaining 1, then work into the DCs from the previous step as follows:

  • For stitches 1-4: Work 2 DCs into each stitch.
  • For stitches 5-6: Work 3 DCs into each stitch.
  • For stitches 7-10: Resume working 2 DCs into each stitch.

Santa Face 4

Cut the yarn and fasten off. For the hat's tip: Chain 9, starting with a single crochet in the third chain from the hook, followed by half double crochets and then double crochets, increasing in size as you reach the end. Finish with two triple crochets.

  • Attach the hat's tip: Slip stitch it to the side of the hat to keep it from flopping, optionally adding a pompom to the tip for a classic Santa hat look.

Santa Face 5

Santa's Mustache and Eyebrows:

  • Mustache: Wrap white yarn around your fingers (about 10 times), tie it in the middle, and sew it onto Santa's face right below his nose.

Santa Face 6

  • Eyebrows: Chain 3, then double crochet into the first chain. Make 2 of these for eyebrows and sew them above the eyes.

This Santa is quirky and unique, and while the original creator mentions struggles with getting it just right, it's all about having fun and embracing the whimsical side of crochet. Enjoy your crafting, and remember to personalize your Santa as you see fit!
