Spider Crochet Pattern

Materials Needed:

  1. Chenille yarn, such as Loops and Threads Sweet Snuggles Light or Loops and Threads Chenille Home Slim.
  2. Crochet hook appropriate for your yarn.
  3. Safety eyes (16 mm suggested).
  4. Polyfill or polyester filling.
  5. Yarn needle.
  6. Stitch markers.

Abbreviations:

  • ch: Chain
  • sc: Single Crochet
  • inc: Increase (2 sc in one stitch)
  • dec: Decrease (sc2tog)
  • sl st: Slip Stitch

Legs:

  1. Make 8 legs:
    • Make a slip knot.
    • Ch 15.
    • Starting in the second chain from the hook, 1 sc.
    • 2 sc in each of the next 13 stitches.
    • Finish with a sl st to secure and leave a long tail for sewing.

Body:

Head:

  1. Magic Ring: Use your preferred method.
  2. Round 1: 6 sc.
  3. Round 2: 6 inc (12 sc).
  4. Round 3: [1 sc, inc] 6 times (18 sc).
  5. Round 4: [2 sc, inc] 6 times (24 sc).
  6. Round 5: [3 sc, inc] 6 times (30 sc).
  7. Rounds 6-8: 30 sc around.

Save

Decrease to form Head:

  1. Round 9: [3 sc, dec] 6 times (24 sc).
  2. Round 10: [2 sc, dec] 6 times (18 sc).

Save

Increase for Body:

  1. Round 11: [2 sc, inc] 6 times (24 sc).
  2. Round 12: [3 sc, inc] 6 times (30 sc).
  3. Round 13: [4 sc, inc] 6 times (36 sc).
  4. Rounds 14-18: 36 sc around.

Save

Attach Eyes and Fangs:

  1. Place eyes between rows 3 and 6 (3 rows from the center) ensuring they are opposite each other.
  2. Fangs:
    • Cut 2 pieces of yarn (14 inches each).
    • Using a yarn needle, mark where the fangs will go.
    • Pull the yarn from inside the head out through the marked point for each fang.
    • Ch 1, then 3 sc in the same stitch, sl st to secure and weave in the ends inside the body.

Save

Attach Legs:

  1. Use stitch markers or similar to mark where the legs will go, each pair of legs should be 1-2 stitches apart and aligned with the fangs.
  2. Sew legs onto the body, weaving in tails securely inside.

Stuff Body:

  1. Stuff the head and body firmly with polyfill.

Finish Body and Close:

  1. Round 19: [4 sc, dec] 6 times (30 sc).
  2. Round 20: [3 sc, dec] 6 times (24 sc).
  3. Round 21: [2 sc, dec] 6 times (18 sc).
  4. Round 22: [1 sc, dec] 6 times (12 sc).
  5. Optional Row 23: 6 dec (6 sc).

Save

Final Steps:

  1. Fasten off, leaving a tail.
  2. Using the yarn needle, weave the tail through the front loops of the stitches in the last row pulling tight to close the hole.
  3. Secure the tail by weaving it into the body and trimming any excess yarn.
