Materials:
- 6 mm crochet hook
- 4.5 mm crochet hook
- Yarn (check the video description for the specific type)
- Stitch markers
Pattern Instructions:
- Magic Circle and Round 1:
- Begin with a 6 mm hook and make a magic circle.
- Chain 2 (this does not count as a stitch).
- Work 10 half double crochets (HDC) into the magic circle.
- Pull the yarn tail to close the circle.
- To join the round: remove your hook from the loop, insert your hook from behind into the top of the first HDC, pull the loop through the stitch, turn your work back to the front, and reinsert your hook into the loop.
- Round 2:
- Chain 1.
- Work 1 HDC into the same stitch.
- Mark the top of this stitch.
- Work 2 HDC in each of the next 9 stitches (total 18 HDC).
- Finish round with a joining method as in Round 1.
- Round 3:
- Chain 1.
- Work 1 HDC into the same stitch.
- Mark the top of this stitch.
- Work 1 HDC in the next stitch, followed by 2 HDC in the next stitch. Alternate this pattern (1 HDC, 2 HDC) around.
- Finish round with a joining method as in Round 1.
- Round 4:
- Chain 1.
- Work 1 HDC into the same stitch.
- Mark the top of this stitch.
- Work 1 HDC in the next 2 stitches, followed by 2 HDC in the next stitch. Alternate this pattern (1 HDC in next 2 stitches, 2 HDC in next) around.
- Finish round with a joining method as in Round 1.
- Weave in the yarn tail from the magic circle.
- Beginning the Body of the Basket:
- Treat this part as Row 1 for clarity.
- Chain 1 and work 1 HDC into the same stitch.
- Mark the top of this stitch.
- Work 1 HDC into each stitch around (40 HDC total).
- Finish round with a joining method as in Round 1.
- Rows 2 to 5 (Repeating Pattern):
- Alternate these two rows:
- Row 1: Chain 1, work 1 HDC into each stitch, join as before.
- Row 2: Chain 1, skip the first stitch, work HDC into the next stitch and all the way around, finishing with a HDC in the skipped stitch, join as before.
- Repeat until you have a total of 5 rows.
- Alternate these two rows:
- Pom-Pom Row (Row 6):
- Switch to a 4.5 mm crochet hook.
- Chain 4, make 4 double crochets (DC) together into the 4th chain from the hook (5 loops on the hook), yarn over, pull through all loops.
- Chain 4, create another set of 4 DC together in the loop at the bottom of the previous set.
- Slip stitch into chain at the bottom, chain 4, skip 3 stitches, slip stitch in the 4th stitch.
- Repeat for a total of 10 pom-poms.
- Finish round with a joining method.
- Row 7:
- Switch back to the 6 mm hook.
- Chain 1, work a single crochet (SC) over the slip stitch, mark the top of this stitch.
- Work 1 SC in the next 3 stitches, SC over the slip stitch, repeat around.
- Finish round with a joining method.
- Row 8:
- Chain 1, skip the first stitch, work HDC into the next stitch and all around, adding the last HDC in the skipped stitch, join as before.
- This complete the body of the basket.
- Basket Handle:
- Switch back to a 4.5 mm crochet hook.
- Choose the stitch to start the handle (mark the 20th stitch from the first).
- Chain 2, work 1 SC into the same stitch, chain 1, skip 1 stitch, work 1 SC into the next stitch.
- Chain 2, turn the work.
- Repeat creating chain 2 and SC in chain spaces for 25 rows.
- Attach the handle by slip stitch to the opposite side with 3 slip stitches, working back and forth across to secure evenly.
- Finishing:
- Weave in all loose ends with a yarn needle.
- Your crochet basket with pom-poms and handle is complete.
