Materials Needed

  • 100% wool yarn (Spy Snow Storm from Hobby or any thick wool yarn)
  • Crochet hooks: 5mm and 6mm
  • Stitch markers or pins
  • Measuring tape

Pattern

Back Panel

  1. Starting Chain: Create a chain that is 50 inches long.
  2. Half Double Crochet (HDC) Row:
    • Yarn over, insert hook into the third chain from the hook, yarn over and pull through one loop.
    • Yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.
    • Continue HDC in each chain across.
  3. Second Row and Further Rows:
    • Chain 2, turn your work.
    • Yarn over, insert hook into the back loop only of the first stitch, yarn over and pull through one loop.
    • Yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.
    • Repeat HDC in back loops only across the row.
  4. Continue until the piece measures 25 inches wide and 50 inches long.

Front Panels (Make 2)

  1. Starting Chain: Create a chain that is 50 inches long.
  2. First HDC Row:
    • Follow the same steps as the back panel.
  3. Second Row and Further Rows:
    • Follow the same pattern as the back panel.
  4. Make each front panel 9.5 inches wide and 50 inches long.

Sleeves (Make 2)

  1. Measure: Measure from your wrist to the middle of your upper arm (for example, 15 inches).
  2. Starting Chain: Create a chain equal to your measurement.
  3. First HDC Row: Follow the same steps as the back panel.
  4. Second Row and Further Rows: Continue until the piece is 20 inches wide, creating a 20x20 inch square.

Assembly

  1. Shoulder Seams:
    • Pin the middle of the back panel marking the neck.
    • Sew or crochet the shoulders together, leaving a 6-inch gap for the neck.
  2. Side Seams:
    • Pin the sides, leaving a space for the armholes (e.g., 11.5 inches).
    • Sew or crochet from the pin marking the armhole down to the bottom.
  3. Attach Sleeves:
    • Fold each sleeve in half and sew or crochet the length to form a tube.
    • Attach sleeves to the armhole, ensuring seams align.

Cuffs

  1. Attach Yarn: Start anywhere around the sleeve opening.
  2. Decrease: Work a decrease round by skipping raised stitches and working into the flat stitches.
  3. Front and Back Post HDC:
    • Chain 3.
    • Work 10 rows of front post and back post half double crochets alternatingly around the cuff.

Collar

  1. Attach Yarn: Attach yarn to the neck edge.
  2. Starting Chain: Chain 10 inches (or desired collar width).
  3. Rows:
    • Work back and forth in HDC in the back loop only.
    • Attach to the neckline with slip stitches every few rows.
  4. Extra Rows: Add an additional 5 rows of HDC in back loop only for more width.

Trim

  1. Starting Chain: Attach yarn to the bottom of the front panel.
  2. Rows:
    • Chain 4 inches for the trim.
    • Work up the front panel in HDC back loop only, attaching to the sweater with slip stitches every few rows.

Pockets (Make 2)

  1. Chain: Chain 36.
  2. First Row: HDC across.
  3. Further Rows: Continue HDC in the back loop only until the pocket measures 21 rows high.
  4. Attach: Sew the pockets to the front panels using a tapestry needle.

Final Assembly

  • Weave in all ends.
  • Block the sweater if necessary to shape it properly.
  • Your crochet high-fashion long sweater coat is now ready to wear!
