How To Crochet Lacy Scarf With Gradient
Materials
- Yarn: Red Heart Sparkle yarn (or any #4 yarn, or baby weight/DK weight for a softer cowl)
- Hook: 3mm crochet hook
Foundation Chain
- Start with a multiple of 10 plus 3 chains.
- For example, chain 53 (or 63, 73, etc. for different lengths).
Row 1: Foundation Row
- Skip the first chain, and single crochet in each chain across the row.
Row 2: Start of the One-Row Pattern
- Chain 3 (counts as the first double crochet), double crochet in the same stitch.
- Chain 1, skip 4 stitches, and in the 5th stitch, do the following:
- 3 double crochets
- Chain 2
- 3 double crochets in the same stitch
- Chain 1, skip 4 stitches, and in the 5th stitch, make a V-stitch:
- Double crochet
- Chain 2
- Double crochet in the same stitch
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 across the row.
- At the end of the row, in the last stitch, make 2 double crochets without chaining between them.
Row 3: Continuation of the One-Row Pattern
- Chain 3 (counts as the first double crochet), turn your work, and double crochet in the same stitch at the base.
- Chain 1, and in the space of the next cluster (3 double crochets from the previous row) do the following:
- 3 double crochets
- Chain 2
- 3 double crochets in the same space
- Chain 1, and in the space of the next V-stitch, do the following:
- Double crochet
- Chain 2
- Double crochet in the same space
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 across the row.
- At the end of the row, in the last space, make 2 double crochets without chaining between them.
Additional Rows
- Repeat Row 3 until you reach the desired length for your scarf or cowl.
Finishing
- Fasten off your work.
- Weave in all ends.
Notes
- This pattern is adaptable; you can use any yarn and hook size that you prefer.
- For a softer and flowier cowl, consider using a baby weight or DK yarn.
- When working with sparkly or metallic thread yarn, be careful as it can easily tangle or separate.
This simple repeating pattern creates a beautiful lace effect that is easy to master, even for a beginner. Enjoy your crochet project!
