Materials:

  • Acrylic yarn in light pink, pink, white, and small quantities of black and yellow
  • Crochet needle size 2
  • Scissors
  • Marker
  • Pins
  • A small pearl
  • Synthetic fiber filling

Pattern Overview:

The Hello Kitty figure is made in two parts. The dimensions could vary based on the yarn you choose (acrylic, granny, or symphony wool).

Head:

Magic Ring: Start with a magic ring containing 8 single crochets (sc).

Save

  • Round 1: Increase in each stitch (16 sc total).
  • Round 2: 1 sc, Increase repeat around (24 sc total).

Continue increasing rounds as follows:

  • Round 3: 2 sc, Increase (32 sc total).
  • Round 4: 3 sc, Increase (40 sc total).
  • Round 5: 4 sc, Increase (48 sc total).
  • Round 6: 5 sc, Increase (56 sc total).
  • Round 7: 6 sc, Increase (64 sc total).

Rounds 9-24: 16 rounds of 64 sc to form the head.

Save

Decreases start: Begin to decrease stitches from Round 25 as follows:

  • 6 sc, decrease (56 sc total), and follow the pattern, adjusting the sc before decreases to shape the head till round 31 where all stitches are decreases to close the top head.

Ears (Make 2):

Save

Magic Ring with 5 sc.

  • Round 1: Increase in each stitch (10 sc total).
  • Round 2: 1 sc, Increase repeat (15 sc total).
  • Increase gradually by 1 sc between increases for subsequent rounds till you reach desired size, then sc around for 1 round to define the ears.

Feet (Make 2):

Start with a Magic Ring of 6 sc.

  • Round 1: Increase in all stitches (12 sc total).
  • Round 2: Alternate between 1 sc and an increase till the end of the round.

Continue increasing for the base then start working even (without increases) for a few rounds.

  • Insert a piece of plastic at the base for stability. Finish off the feet by decreasing to shape the top part of the feet.

Body:

Starting at the feet, join them together and start crocheting around them, gradually increasing and decreasing to shape the body.

  • Shift to different colors as instructed to mimic Hello Kitty's clothes.
  • Fill with synthetic fiber as you go to ensure a firm shape.

Arms (Make 2):

  • Similar to the feet, start with a magic ring and increase.
  • After a few rounds of increases, work even and then start working on the little paw detail by crocheting a few taller stitches (double crochets) into one stitch for the thumb.

Finishing Touches:

  • Sew on the arms, ears, and any additional details like Hello Kitty's bow and facial features.
  • Use a small pearl for the nose and embroider the eyes and whiskers with black yarn.
