Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: Bernat Maker Home Dec or a similar #5 bulky yarn. The example uses the color Pebble Beach.
  • Crochet Hook: Size suitable for your yarn, typically recommended on the yarn label.
  • Other: Yarn needle, scissors, 20" x 20" pillow form.

Skill Level:

  • Easy

Abbreviations:

  • ch(s): chain(s)
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • sk: skip
  • rep: repeat
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • Fhdc: foundation half double crochet
  • blo: back loop only
  • exhdc: extended half double crochet

Crochet Envelope Pillow

Instructions

  • 1. Fhdc 40 or chain 41, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (40 sts)picture of red hdc stitches.
  • 2. Ch 2 (does not count here + throughout), in same st exhdc and in each st across, turn.
  • 3. Ch 1 (does not count here + throughout), in same st blo hdc in each st across, turn
  • 4. Rep Rows 2-3 until your fabric is the length needed to cover your pillow.

Finishing

  • 1. Cut yarn. Wrap fabric around the pillow. Fold the excess down over the pillow to form the envelope flap.
  • 2. Pin along edges to secure. Join yarn with a sl st to the upper corner. Slip st down the edge, and be sure to go through all layers.
  • 3. Create a visible seam by slip stitching on the outside. You can slip stitch around the pillow for a "piping" look.

Adding extra embellishments like buttons or tassels on the overlap flap can be done at this stage.
