Sunburst Granny Square:
- Round 1:

- Pull the loose end to close the circle.
- Slip stitch into the first double crochet to close the round.
- Round 2:
- Change to pink yarn.
- Chain 2.
- Work puff stitches into each double crochet from the previous round: (yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull through) x 3 into each stitch, then yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on hook, chain 1.
- Slip stitch into the first puff stitch to close the round.
- Round 3:
- Change to green yarn.
- Chain 2.
- Work double crochet four together (dc4tog) into each chain space from the previous round: (yarn over, insert hook into chain space, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) x 4, then yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on the hook, chain 1.
- Slip stitch into the first dc4tog to close the round.
- Round 4:
- Change to white yarn.
- Chain 2.
- First Class: Do 3 double crochets (dc) in the first chain space.
- Second Class: 3 treble crochets (tr) in the next chain space:
- Treble crochet (yarn over twice, insert hook, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops x 3)
- Chain 2 and do another 3 treble crochets in the same space to form a corner.
- Third Class: 3 dc in the next chain space.
- Fourth Class: 3 half double crochets (hdc)
- Half double crochet (yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops)
- Repeat this pattern (dc, tr, chain 2, dc) all around, making corners with treble crochets and chain 2.
- Slip stitch to the first double crochet to close the round.
- Fasten off and weave in the yarn ends.
Repeat this pattern to create a total of 13 squares with varying colors between the white rounds.
Connecting Squares:
- Lay out the squares in the desired pattern.
- Use a slip stitch to join the squares together:
- Start at the top center and move down a row, then across the next.
- Slip stitch through the chain spaces and the vs of each square so that all squares are connected without needing to cut the yarn often.
- Ensure the seams are right on the inside of the bag for a seamless look.
Adding the Strap:
- Create I-cords for the strap:
- Start with a slip knot and chain 3.
- Work an I-cord by pulling up loops: (1 loop on hook, pull up another loop from second chain, pull up the third loop from the starting chain).
- Continue chain stitching right to the left.
- Make about 40 cm or 16 inches long strap.
Repeat for a second, identical strap.
- Attach the straps to the top chain spaces of the granny squares.
Finishing:
- Weave in all loose ends through the stitches to secure them.
- Ensure all parts and pieces are sturdy.
