Materials Needed

  • Three different colors of yarn (250 grams each, 100% acrylic recommended)
  • 4mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Buttons (optional)

Step by step Pattern

1. Create the Squares

  • Foundation Chain: Create a slip knot and make a foundation chain of 23 chains.
    Slip knot -> Ch 23
  • Row 1: Half double crochet (hdc) in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. (22 hdc total)
    Hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc across (22 hdc)
  • Row 2: Chain 1, turn, hdc in each stitch across, working through both loops.
    Ch 1, turn, hdc in each st across (22 hdc)
  • Repeat Row 2: Continue until you have 18 rows in total.
  • Fasten Off: When the square measures approximately 15 centimeters, fasten off.
    Fasten off and weave in ends

Repeat these steps to make:

  • 20 squares of color 1
  • 21 squares of color 2
  • 19 squares of color 3

(60 squares in total)

2. Create the Ribbing and Cuffs

  • Bottom Ribbing:
    • Start with a slip knot and chain 12.
    • Row 1: Hdc in the 2nd chain from the hook and across (11 hdc total).
      Slip knot -> Ch 12 -> Hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc across (11 hdc)
    • Row 2: Turn, ch 1, hdc in back loops only across (11 hdc).
      Ch 1, turn, hdc blo across (11 hdc)
    • Repeat Row 2 until the ribbing piece measures approximately 135 centimeters.
    • Fasten off.
      Repeat until 135 cm long. Fasten off and weave in ends.
  • Cuffs:
    • Start with a slip knot and chain sufficient for the desired length.
    • Work hdc in back loops only as you did for the ribbing.
      Measure appropriately to fit cuffs.

3. Joining the Squares

  • Arrange Squares:
    • Assemble squares as per your color scheme layout.
    Layout as desired. Follow pattern color guides.
  • Sewing the Squares Together:
    • Align two squares with their last rows together.
    • Using the back loops only, sew the squares together.
