Crochet Amigurumi Baby Whale Pattern Save

Materials Needed:

  • Light blue yarn (4 ply recommended)
  • White and pink yarn for details
  • 4 mm safety eyes
  • Pillow fluff for stuffing
  • Crochet hook (3 mm recommended for tighter stitches)
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker (or a paper clip)
  • Blank keyrings (optional for keychain)

Pattern Overview:

1 Save

Magic Circle and Body:

  • Start with a magic circle.
  • Chain 1 (this does not count as a stitch).
  • Make 6 single crochets (sc) into the magic circle.
  • Pull the tail to close the circle.

Rounds and Increases:

  • Round 2: Increase in each stitch around (12 sc).
  • Round 3: [1 sc, increase] repeat around (18 sc).
  • Round 4: [1 sc in the next 2 stitches, increase] repeat around (24 sc).
  • Rounds 5-7: 1 sc in each stitch around, keeping the stitch count at 24.

2 Save

Tail and Fins:

Round 8:

  • Start the tail: Chain 4, starting from the second chain from the hook, make 1 sc in the next 3 chains.
  • Make 1 sc in the next 6 stitches.
  • First fin: Chain 3, starting from the second chain from the hook, make 1 sc in each chain.
  • Make 1 sc in the next 12 stitches.
  • Repeat the fin on the other side.
  • Make 1 sc in the last 6 stitches.

Change to white yarn in the last stitch of Round 8.

3 Save

Underbelly and Finishing Touches:

  • Round 9: With white yarn, make 1 sc in each stitch around the body.
  • Safety Eyes: Place safety eyes between the fins, one round above the fin level and two stitches apart.

Decreases and Closing:

  • Round 10: [1 sc in the next 2 stitches, invisible decrease] repeat around (18 sc).
  • Round 11: [1 sc, invisible decrease] repeat around (12 sc).
  • Stuff the amigurumi firmly.
  • Round 12: Decrease around to close (6 sc).
  • Cut a long tail, thread through remaining stitches, pull to close hole, and weave in end.

4 Save

Cheeks and Keychain Attachment:

  • Embroider blush on cheeks with pink yarn by stitching around a nearby stitch.
  • If making into a keychain, attach the keyring to the top of the whale's body using the same color yarn.

Notes:

  • Remember to use a stitch marker to mark the end of each round, as this amigurumi is worked in continuous rounds without joining.
