Crochet Top Down Raglan Sweater

Materials:
- Stitch markers or similar
- A 3.5 mm (E-4) crochet hook
- A darning needle for weaving in ends
- Measuring tape
- Fingering weight yarn (Evergreen wool yarn from Hobby in color five was used in the tutorial)
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- YO: yarn over
- st(s): stitch(es)
Instructions:
Neck Band:
- Leave a tail to sew the neck band later.
- Make a slip knot and ch 17.
- Turn, starting in the second chain from the hook, make a sc in the back bump of each chain across (16 sc). Ch 1, turn.
- Continue working sc in the back loop only across each row until you have 102 rows (for size M; adjust rows for different sizes).
- Fold the neck band in half and use the tail to sew the short sides together with a whip stitch. Weave in ends.
Yoke:
- Reattach working yarn to the neck band.
Ch 1 and make a round of sc around the neck band, making 1 sc in each row except for every third row where you will make 2 sc.
- You should have 136 sts around.
Join with a sl st to the first st and ch 1. Turn.
Begin the raglan part:
- Make 17 hdc, mark the first st with a stitch marker.
- Make a dc, ch 1, dc in the same st (V-stitch), place a stitch marker in the ch-1 space.
- Make 49 hdc.
- Repeat V-stitch, place stitch marker in ch-1 space.
- Make 17 hdc.
- Repeat V-stitch, place stitch marker in ch-1 space.
- Make 49 hdc to finish the round.
- Join with a sl st. Ch 1, turn.
Increasing with V-Stitches:
- Begin next row with a V-stitch around the post from previous row.
- Mark the ch-1 space.
- Hdc in the back loop only until you reach the next marked V-stitch.
Continue until the desired yoke length is achieved, with the following increment pattern:
- Each round starts with a V stitch in the ch-1 spaces that were previously marked.
- Increase 2 sts on each front, back, and sleeve sections with each round.
Joining for the Body:
- Once yoke is complete, ch 5 for the underarm.
- Skip sleeve section, continue hdc in back loops around the body section.
- Repeat step 2 for the other sleeve.
- Join to first st with a sl st. Continue for the length of the body.
- Repeat body rounds until desired length is reached.
Body Ribbing:
- After completing the body, ch 16.
- Turn, sc in the back bump of the second ch from the hook and each chain back (15 sc).
- Attach to body with slip sts, ch 1, turn.
- Sc in the back loops.
- Repeat steps 3-4 all around the body edge to create ribbing.
- Seam the ribbing edges together when complete.
Sleeves:
- Reattach yarn at the underarm.
- Hdc around sleeve opening, including ch 5 underarm stitches.
- Decrease every so many rounds to taper the sleeve.
- Continue until desired length is reached.
Sleeve Ribbing:
- Ch 16.
- Turn, sc in the back bump of the second ch from the hook and each chain back to the sleeve (15 sc).
- Attach to sleeve with sl st, ch 1, turn.
- Sc in the back loops.
- Repeat steps 3-4 all around the sleeve edge.
- Seam the ribbing edges together.
Finishing:
- Weave in all ends securely.
- Block the sweater if needed to adjust the shaping.
