Making The Fingerless Gloves

Materials Needed:

  • Size 4 yarn
  • 5.0 mm crochet hook
  • 4.5 mm crochet hook (optional, for cuff)
  • Pair of scissors
  • Yarn needle

Step by step Pattern

1. Create the Cuff:

  1. Optional: Use the 4.5 mm crochet hook for the cuff.
  2. Make a slip knot.
  3. Chain 11.
  4. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and across. (10 Single crochets)
  5. Chain 1 and turn.
  6. Perform one single crochet through both loops in the first stitch.
  7. Single crochet in the back loop only for the next eight stitches.
  8. Single crochet through both loops in the last stitch.
  9. Repeat steps 5-8 until you have 26 rows (or fewer rows if making smaller gloves).

2. Join the Cuff:

  1. Fold the cuff in half, aligning the starting chain with the last row.
  2. Slip stitch through both layers of the cuff to join.
  3. Turn the cuff inside out so the seam is on the inside.
  4. Chain 2.

3. Start the Main Hand Section:

  1. Continue with the 5.0 mm hook.
  2. Double crochet around the edge of the cuff. Place one double crochet into each row (26 double crochets total).
  3. Slip stitch to join to the top of the first double crochet.

4. Create the Ribbing:

Round 1:

  1. Chain 2.
  2. Double crochet in the same stitch and the next stitch.
  3. Front post double crochet around the next two stitches.
  4. Repeat steps 2-3 all the way around.
  5. Slip stitch to the top of the first double crochet.

Round 2:

  1. Chain 2.
  2. Repeat the pattern of 2 double crochets and 2 front post double crochets around.
  3. Slip stitch to the top of the first double crochet.

Round 3-5:

  1. Repeat Round 2.

5. Create the Thumb Hole:

Round 6:

  1. Chain 2.
  2. Double crochet in the first two stitches.
  3. Chain 4 and skip the next four stitches.
  4. Continue with the pattern of 2 front post double crochets and 2 double crochets around.
  5. Slip stitch to join.

6. Work Around the Thumb Hole:

Round 7:

  1. Chain 2.
  2. Double crochet in the first two stitches.
  3. Double crochet four times in the thumb hole space.
  4. Continue with the pattern of 2 front post double crochets and 2 double crochets around.
  5. Slip stitch to join.

Round 8:

  1. Chain 2.
  2. Continue with the pattern of 2 double crochets and 2 front post double crochets around (aligning with the thumb hole).
  3. Slip stitch to join.

Rounds 9-11:

  1. Repeat Round 8.

7. Finishing:

Final Round:

  1. Chain 1.
  2. Single crochet in each stitch around.
  3. Slip stitch to join.
  4. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends with the yarn needle.

Optional: If creating a pair of gloves, repeat the pattern. You can make minor adjustments if desired for fitting each hand.

Additional Instructions:

  • If making gloves for a child, reduce the number of rows in the cuff and hand section.
  • Adjust the thumb hole placement to fit individual hand sizes.
  • You can create the right or left-hand glove slightly differently by adjusting the thumb hole placement as mentioned in the end of the instructions above.
