How To Crochet Dawn's Embrace Blanket  

Materials:

  • Double knit yarn (various colors as preferred)
  • 4mm crochet hook

Instructions:

  1. Starting the Blanket:
    • Make a slip knot.
    • Chain a multiple of 12 to reach the desired size of your blanket.
    • Chain 1 extra for the turning chain.
  2. Base Row:
    • Work into the back loops of the chain:
      • Skip the first chain, and make 1 single crochet (sc) in the second chain from hook.
      • Continue with 1 sc in each chain across to create the foundation row.

  3. Row 1:
    • Chain 1, turn.
    • 1 sc in the first stitch.
    • Chain 3, skip 2 stitches.
    • 1 sc in the next (third) stitch to create a chain space.
    • Skip 2 stitches.
    • In the following stitch, make 7 double crochets (dc) to create the first shell.
    • Skip 2 stitches, 1 sc in the next stitch.
    • Repeat: Chain 3, skip 2 stitches, 1 sc, chain 3, skip 2 stitches, 1 sc.
    • Continue with the pattern: Skip 2 stitches, shell (7 dc in the next stitch), skip 2 stitches, 1 sc.
    • Repeat the sequence of shell and chain spaces till the end.
    • Finish the row with 1 sc in the last stitch.

  4. Row 2:
    • Chain 3, turn.
    • 1 sc in the first chain-3 space.
    • Skip the next sc and start working on the shell: In the following 7 stitches, work 1 dc, chain 1, repeat (dc and chain 1) until the shell ends.
    • Skip 1 sc and 1 chain space, 1 sc in the next chain-3 space, chain 3, 1 sc in the next chain space.
    • Repeat the extended shell: Skip sc, work (dc, chain 1) in each of the 7 stitches of the next shell.
    • Continue with the pattern till end: Work chain 3 spaces and extended shells alternately.
    • Finish in the last chain space with 1 dc.

  5. Row 3: (Change color if desired)
    • Chain 3, turn.
    • In the first chain-3 space, make 4 dc.
    • Skip 1 sc and all stitches until the next chain-3 space.
    • 1 sc in the next chain-3 space, chain 3, 1 sc in the next chain-3 space.
    • Continue with a shell (7 dc) in the next chain space.
    • Repeat the sequence of chain spaces and shells as per the established pattern.

  6. Row 4:
    • Chain 4 (counts as first dc and chain 1), turn.
    • In the subsequent shell stitches, work extended shell (dc, chain 1) across.
    • In each chain-3 space, 1 sc, chain 3, 1 sc.
    • Continue and finish with dc in the turning chain at the end.

  7. Row 5 (and onwards):
    • Attach new color if desired and repeat from Row 1 (account for different starting stitches on row 3).

Continue the pattern until the blanket reaches your desired length.
